I am getting my Raptor back in the air and am going over all of the things that go with it. I went through my field box to see what I needed to replace or clean up. I was building a new battery pack for my starter out of (2) 6 cell 2000mah Nimh packs. As I was replacing the wires I was remembering how old this starter is. I bought it on SUPER sale when Hobby Shack, now Hobby People opened their store in San Diego. It was $9.99. The people I flew with laughed at me because I did not buy a Sullivan, the only REAL starter. The starter is like 20 years old or older. I can not remember how old I was when I got it. I just know it was the grand opening of Hobby Shack.

So, do you have anything that you knew or were told was a P.O.S. and it would never last, that has been like a Timex?

I have that same starter, that I also got at Hobby Shack. I also at the same time got a fuel pump from them (bottom of the line) and they both still work great....go figure! This was back in '89 or '90. I got one of their Magnum Pro SE 61 airplane motors that runs better than almost every other engine I have, that motor cost a whopping $59, and it has TONS of power....still.

Hobby Shack Starter

Ha Ha Ha!!!
I was just talking to my wife about my starter last night. It is probably the same Hobby shack special you guys have. I bought it in San Diego 12 or 13 years ago. I ran across this post and it made me laugh. I bought it as a temporary to hold me over and I've just never had a problem with it, so why replace it?!

Erik

I'm sorry, I can't hear you over the sound of how AWESOME I AM!!!

The ONLY fuel pump that lasted more than one season.... My Dave Brown Six Shooter. Everybody seems to hate it. It lasted well over 15 years before I used the rebuild kit I had "just in case".

I still use it occasionnaly, when my newer pumps stops working (at least once a year). It is more than 18 years old now (bought it in 1990, when I started flying rc planes)

Until Now my Dave Brown Six Shoot, still working. Bought it in 1989, have only change the Silicon Tubing once only that was 9 years ago......Have already break the Plastic Tubing......But able to fixed it using 2 Different size copper tubing and solder it together.......Until Today, its still working in Perfect condition.

One thing I like about this Dave Brown Peristaltic Pump....is that you can easily determine how much fuel getting into the Tank by just counting the Revolution it makes to a full tank.

Look like this will last for another 20 years.

My 32-year old, 1976 Simprop RC system. Everything works, servos and all. This doesn't really qualify as "thought would never last item", as I fully expected it to last forever! So far, so good...

EDIT - Of course I don't fly anything with it on 27MHz. Interestingly, though, both Tx and Rx are (were) of modular design, allowing to use any band (27, 35, 40, 72, etc)

My Sullivan starter. Bought it sometime before 1980. At least 28 years old.

Various nitro engines from that era, all around 25 to 30 years old, including a boxed, pristine never-run OS .25.

The items above are not getting any use, but my 14-year old Kyosho Stratus Sports electric glider is seeing daily flying now that I converted it from Ni-CD brushed to Lipo brushless power.

Best regards,
Bruno.
