e-Minicopter Joker > Building a Joker V1

Inverted 3D

Hello,

I've been transformed to the "dark side" and am building a V1 Joker. I bought it from someone on this forum and it came in all the plastic packaging but not with directions. Can anyone help me with finding an instruction manual?
I've read some info on which motors to run but they don't always state which version of Joker. Which Actro motor has to be used in the V1?

TIA

Ok, I found an instruction manual on joker usa .com so that's covered,,, I think. Any other recommendations? I'm planning on using this for an AP ship.

Here is the manual:

Can't help with motor selection. What voltage you going to use 10 or 12s and what sort of performance are you after? Then maybe someone can suggest a motor.

Timing is everything. Probably looking at 12s using A-123 batteries if they'll fit. Thanks for the help.

When you have any problems with the battery size: We have made for the Joker 1 higher side frames that the battery tray is more flexible. Part #304

I am also new with Minicopter birds. For the MJ1, the only motor you can use seems to be the Actro 24-5 in 10/12s lipo.
If you want to go AP, I recommand the Power jazz from Kontronik but the Jazz 55-10-32 should be enough on 10s.

Definitely a thumbs up for the Kontronik controllers. The Jazz is fine on 12s A123. I would advice powerjazz for anything higher voltage. You will need the part Gerd refers too for A123's also.

I am getting decent performance on my J2 with 12s2p A123 packs

Is this a Joker or Maxi Joker?

I think the Joker1 uses the Actro with the wires coming from the base of the motor as opposed to the more common arrangement seen in use on the 2nd generation machines.

Motor for Joker 1

There are only 2 choices...

The Actro 24-4 or 24-5

I used to fly a Joker 1 with a 24-4 on 10s and it was great...Plenty of power ...

Oh...and the motor for the joker 1 is the airplane style withthe wires coming out the top as previously stated...

The newer heli style actro motor with the output shafts don't work in the joker 1

You can also use the actro 32-3 and actro 32-4 motors (older style, not "Heli" ) in the Joker 1. The only you must do is to remove the three aluminium bushes between motor and upper carrier. But you must look for a good cooling, the older actro 32 series had a tendence to become relative warm, so an additional cooling fan besides would not be a bad choice.

Motors...

OOPS!...forgot about those...funny thing is that I had a 32-4 for my Joker 1 and never used it...I was wondering what it took to make those work..

Good to know..Thanks for the info Gerd...

What pinion set did you get with your Joker?

I bought the kit off a local company that had it. He wasn't sure whether it was a Maxi or a standard Joker. How would I tell?

I'll check on the pinion and post back.

Jag, did you ever manage to sell that motor, by the way?

and Gerd, out of curiosity, what would I need to mount a Plettenberg motor on a Joker 1? planning on stretching it to a maxi at some point when I can afford it.

Inverted 3d,
measure the length of the tail boom and post it then someone will tell you if its a maxi or not.

"out of curiosity, what would I need to mount a Plettenberg motor on a Joker 1?"

You'd need a mill to make your own mount.

Joker 1s are designed around the Actro Airplane versions.

Check with Brian at https://www.tanicpacks.com/

He can make you up a set of A123 packs that will fit.

Aerreal,

I do not think Brians stock 12s2p A123 packs will fit the Joker1 without the modified frames mentioned by Gerd above. There is another post here where I measured the dimensions of Brians packs. Its not the packs that are the problem its that the cells themselves are too big for the stock frames. They fit fine in the Joker2 though.

I measured the boom and it was 31 11/16 inches or 804.862 5 millimeter if I converted correctly.
