We're sick. Sick, I tell you! I think the two scale projects will have me covered for the Summer from a building standpoint. The gyros are going to be in the two Panteras and a Raptor 50v2. The 4th gyro I own will tied up on the Raptor 50v1 going into the Ecureuil so I'm configuring that back to a stable beginners/scale mechanics first.

Sick with joy.
I was shopping at my LHS and when I got home a new Pantera was sitting on my doorstep.
I dove into the box to find my Pantera kit and my new Mulit gov and a T shirt. Like a kid in a candy store i'm ready to build again.
BBC hear we come!
I have everything in stock less a few servos. LHS should have them in by mid week. AZ reg and Li Ion pack is on it's way.
Also the fun fly this May is a Go in Othello WA. Three days of flying and fun. Good thing I have a few cases of fuel on hand.
What a great day.
I need to calm down. NO IM SICK with this hobby. Time to dive into the box before the cat does.
Bill....calm down. NOOOOOOO! You Don't understand....
Wait a minute....I'm single now.
I'm building tonight.

BBC UPDATE

I was taken to task today by a customer about when we'd have the BBC ready. Frankly, he was irrate and I couldn't blame him. Anyway, he slowly cooled off as we chatted but it made me realize it was really time for an update.

Folks, please believe me when I say nobody is more frustrated than me in how long it's taking, OK? Anyway, as we ended up agreeing, it would have been better if I had never said anything until it was ready, and if I could do it over again I'd probably learn from this experience and keep quiet until it was ready. However, the milk has been spilled so there's no crying over it now and hence, since the cat's out of the bag already, here's the latest on the BBC.

There are three release candidates amongst you with the users wron to secrecy. We've learned some things, which have resulted in minor changes, and are also learning what we need to do in the way of instrcutions. Please realize someguys can dive in with nohting and others need more help so this is important.

Also, the most recent gear samples were sent to me today (version umpteen). I expect to see then next week sometime and if all goes good we'll pull the trigger on manufacture - yes, at last! These have been the last bit of the puzzle for us before we begin to offer the BBC kits so it hopefully won't be too much longer.

Wait, where have I heard this before? I really mean it though! We're on the home stretch now.

Regards,

John Beech - GM (and janitor)

For me, I'd rather know something is in progress, and get updates to what the current status is. Keeps me on my chosen path, rather than deviate because I'm ASSUMING it won't happen. I am quite content to hear; " Another delay because of X, but we're at step 12". Really John, that was one of my deciding factors to go with a Pantera when I've never even seen them. I have more faith in your commitment to the model because of it.

As a side note, not sure I'll have the patience to wait for the real thing before attempting my home brew, but knowing it's on the way means if I fail at my own conversion, no big deal. Gave me a chance to tinker while I wait. If I'm successful? I'll probably still get the real BBC to replace whatever I've done.

This is why I don't attempt my own BBC. I know I could successfully produce an engine mount. That also brings the thought it does have to align the engine properly with the clutch bell or there will be other issues. This would likely not be a problem either.

I however could not reproduce the proper gear to go with a 70 to 90 which is what I have in mind. To save my poor pocketbook and the engine from producing an ungodly rpm on a 8.7 ratio I think I will wait for proper gears.

John when people realize that you are producing a BBC for the Pantera it is going to cause great interest. I have read about others attempts at BBC. They have clutch issues not holding the power alignment issues and etc. When I take my Pantera to the field with a 90 in it and they all see the 50 on steriods theyre gonna look and when they do the lights are gonna turn on. Theyre going to see the 90 sized clutch bell and over sized bearings and 4mm flybar. Theyre going to see the oversized tank that allows them to not give up flying time. They will actually see it instead of automatically assuming they know it, but parts are cheaper for brand X. I've actually had someone ask if the flybar was an upgrade and how much it cost. My reply of course smiling this is a box stock helicopter. John this is when you sit back smile watch your machine go out the door faster than you can produce it.

I remember back in the day when the Tiger MkII was on line. Then the word came out about the Pantera. It also had issues and John delayed the release what seamed forever. But when It did hit the streets.
This will be the case with the BBC im sure of it.
Let John and his merry band at skunk works fix things so we don't have too. We will all be happy campers I'm sure...Just like the Pantera's birth.

OS 70
Power Output: 2.5HP at 16,000 RPM
Practical RPM Range: 2,000 - 18,000 RPM

8.7 x 1900 HS so the motor will run at 16,500
8.7 x 1850 HS the motor will run at under 16,100
8.7 x 1800 HS the motor will run at 15,600

So what is wrong with that 8.7 gear ratio?

8.7 does work for the OS70 very well. However, if he wants to go to the 90, 8.7 is wrong, wrong, wrong, so he'll have to decide which way he wants to go first. You're looking for about 15,000 rpm on the 91. It makes 3.3hp at that rpm according to the specs. So, you might consider something along the lines of around 8.1 ratio for an 1850 headspeed.

Ditto what Marty typed.
The gearing for a 90 is not the same for a 50.
Wait for JB's gear set. Then again if you care to try it please shoot some vids so we can all watch the carnage.
