HIROBO Freya - Sceadu - Shuttle > K&S Upgrade Yoke & Blade Grips for Freya

FYI, here's some pics of the K&S upgrades for the Freya

It's beefy I can say that. At first I was afraid the included spindle was proprietary, but it uses standard Hirobo spindles so if you crash it, you don't have to hold your breath for a replacement spindle.

I'm gonna put this on, when I put the YS80 back on the Freya. The current setup is running extremely well and I don't wanna mess it up for now.

Thanks

Whats the advantage of these changes? I see one obvious advantage in the last pic. That Hirobo head button is molded on and breaks if the blade holder link breaks in a crash. Which I am told is pretty common. I did it. I'd like to not replace the whole yoke because the little button broke.

my concern is that the machined in spindle holder deforms in a
crash.

I just Dremel off portions of the stock one that would interfere w/ the
blade grip.

At least I saw some interest on this topic.

The units are K&S #965 & #966. I bought them from Stephen at cyberheli.

The reason I got it is because I was reaaaallllly curious. It's not too pricey ($90 for the pair of blade grips and $40 for the yoke) so it's a much cheaper alternative than the blue SSR-V rotorhead from Hirobo.

Over the course of a year flying the freya, I've managed to collect 2 blade grips because the pivot bolts sheared off on impact. I have 4 yokes, all workable except for the head button. If these units are even remotely as hardy as other metal rotorheads, I'm sure it will last a really long time.

As for dimension, it's the same as the stock rotorhead so no surprises there. So

I don't think these units are easily deformed. Like I said on my prior post, these things are beefy and heavy, around 2x the weight of the plastic unit. I'm sure the monster motors will love this head.

I was thinking they would be better if anodized purple like what K&S offers for other helis. Ah... what the heck. As long as it flies straight right?

You might end up saving money with them. Thanks for the info. In case the unthinkable happens, please let us know how they held up! Your right about the weakness, I have a pair of blade grips and a yoke myself that are damaged for the same reasons.

What do you mean, sheared off on impact?

My motto is this..Fly...Rebuild...Fly

Rotor,

Just what I meant... in a nasty crash (like a rollover), the metal pivot bolt on the blade grip will get torn off, ruining it because the threads on the grip get elongated or stripped. I tried to fix it by putting some good epoxy in the blade grip hole where the pivot bolt screws in, but after awhile, they just don't give a good bond (plastic-metal).

As for the yoke, sometimes, the link will pop off and the blade grip will rotate thru the yoke, breaking it.

However, I can honestly say, those days are more or less behind me (wishful thinking) now that my skills have improved since those incidents occurred and I can auto with confidence.
