HIROBO Freya - Sceadu - Shuttle > Scaedu Overheating problem solved.....

Yup, I finally solved my Scaedu overheating problem. I changed the engine. I installed a Webra Speed 35 which has just as much power as my OS32, BUT this little beauty is not yet run in and is running rich.

I think the OS32 is underpowered for the Scaedu and straining too much. My advise for anyone considering a Scaedu....go for the 50 size.

Yes as compared to the Raptor, the Sceadu is a relatively heavy ship for a 32. I agree with you about the .50 being the right engine for the Sceadu. It might be a bit overpowered but I prefer that than underpowered.

hakim, do you know how much your Sceadu weighs?

My flying buddy is building one, and while I agree that it is definitely larger than your average 30 ship, I don't think it will be any bigger or heavier than an X-Cell 30 or Ergo 30. And there are thousands of those flying fine with 32SX engines. Just don't try to 3F one...

I will be very interested to see how much my pal's Sceadu weighs in comparison to my X-Cell 30; which will be finished soon.

Hi Steve,

My Scaedu weighs 3.5kgs (7.7lbs). Everything bog standard with SAB 550 carbon blades and 1100mah battery.

Sorry, but what does 3F mean?

hakim,

I'm glad to hear that your overheating issue is finally solved, even if it has cost you a new engine. A guy at our field has tried the Webra 35 in a Raptor but he didn't like it at all, he felt it had no power so he ended up putting an OS46 in it and eventually a TT50. He's much happier with the Raptor with the 50 than he was with either the OS32 or Webra35.

Having a machine such as the Sceadu on the market I no longer see the point of owning a 30 size machine any more. The 50 might be $200 more to start with but the extra power clearly outweighs the increased cost, at least in my balance.

What is the benefit of the 30 other than the $200 saving? It will cost the same to repair (except blades, they'll be $15-$20 more), and fuel consumption will be higher (It's $13 a gallon, I don't worry much about it). I just don't see anyone who really thinks about it going for the 30 (sorry hakim )

7.7 pounds??? Man; I hope my X-Cell doesn't weigh that much... you here, Gordie? How much does your weigh?

3F is a term for 3D, coined by the late Jim Ketner (RIP). It stands for "flip-flop flying" I know that practitioners of this refer to it as three dimensional flying. Most of what I see is flipping and flopping around, so I think it is quite appropriate...

Greg, there are many reasons why someone would want a 30 ship. Not all of us feel the urge to do gravity-defying gyrations, etc., and are perfectly content to putz around the field upright at all times; so we don't need excess power. Personally, I have always had a 30 to complement my 60s. My 60 will not fit in the cab of my truck, and also will not co-exist in the bed with the larger airplanes I'm coming to favor. A 30 fits behind the seats, in the crew cab area, just right.

Plus, there are times I would just rather fly the less-stressful smaller ship. And fuel economy IS an issue with me, considering that my 32SX uses about a third of the fuel, for the same amount of air time, that my 61SX does.

I HAVE thought about it, Greg. 30s are cool; and have their place.

over the weekend i have switch from 15% to 30% on my o.s. 32 . it was running great , over heated one time cause of needle settings . now with 30% its best running machine i ever had .

"a little search goes along way" and "copy and paste" works just as well.

Hakim,

Thanks for the input. I read your review of the 30 on littlerotors.com I am in the process of deciding to get the Sceadu and now it looks like it will be the 50. I can see where a 32 would be hard pressed to lift a 7lbs plus heli with out straining a little.

If you have any other insights or thoughts to share on the Sceadu please let me know.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your freya

Jeff,

Get the Sceadu 50 it's a great ship and you'll love it. Besides as long as you don't use MS-600 blades you'll have absolutely no problems like woofing or clutches or boom supports breaking.
As far as 3D flying capabilities just check Jim Stark's video of him flying a Sceadu 50 and you'll be convinced.

I personally have a preferance for 30 sized helis for the same reasons that Steve mentioned; its easier to handle and fit in my truck. Although it seems that even that will soon change to 50 sized helis since its only the engine size that will be different.

I can't imagine where my Scaedu put on so much weight? I'd better check it into one of those weight loss clinics!

Jeff, Go for the Scaedu 50 and you will not regret it. I will be adding some more thoughts to the LittleRotors web site soon. Thanks for your condolances for the Freya. Gotten over that now.

overheating?

Isn't this the one that Ray talks about in his book about extending the cooling shroud over the complete head? If not I guess I had better dig out the book.

Thanks Scott S.
