My new align 430 L should be here tomorrow. Need to find some

look?

Align has a package that has three different size pinions with 3.2 hole. They also have a set with a smaller hole so make sure you get the 3.2.

Ok. I have a 12 T and a 13 T coming. Hopefully that will get me
started. Had to order a new main shaft also.

I would like to find a 9 or 10 tooth pinion gear for the 430l motor, I run a 11 tooth and I think it is to much for the MX. I think 10 would be perfect...If anyone out there knows where I can get one let me know..Thanks.

10 is as small as I've seen, I have the 10 - 14 tooth. I'm running the 430XL with the Align 35 amp ESC in my MX450 with the 11 tooth and it does fine. I was actually thinking of stepping up to a 12 tooth but since I'm only do very basic learning and no fancy stuff, the 11 tooth gives me tons of flight time. When I first set mine up I did the calc for the gear ratio and motor KV at 11 volts and seems like the 12 tooth was about the max and 10 was getting kinda slow. Couldn't swear to that now though, that was past yesterday and that's about all my old memory is good for.

I am going to try the 11 T also first on the 430L. It is 3550Kv.
Did you just use a dremel tool to file a flat spot on the shaft?

Good idea, that would be hard to line up, I just used blue locktite on the set screw and shaft/pinion once I lined up the main gear. I also used the larger screw holes on the motor...I dremeled the mounting plate for the larger screws.....Talk about not being able to get a wrench on them... Works good when the heli is in the air..

The 430XL is 3700 KV. so it does spin a good bit faster.

No on the flat spot, I've never had one to slip. I do clean everything with brake cleaner, use the red loctite and torque it down pretty hard.

After getting my backlash set, I snug the screws down pretty good. Then I remove the motor mount, take one screw out, put locktite on it and tighten it down good, then take the other screw out, loctite it and tighten it down good. About the only way to realy tighten them down good in the frame it to use hex head screws (which are hard to find with the right threads for the motor) and a ball end allen or catch the head of the screws with a good pair of needle nose pliers and tighten them. I just prefer to remove the mount.

I just ran ran the numbers and a 10T pinion will give you a 13.8 gear ration witch at 11 volts on a 3550KV motor will give you a head speed of 2830 rpm
11T pinion will give a 12.55 gear ratio and 3111 rpm head speed at 11 volts
12T pinion will give 11.15 gear ratio and 3500 rpm head speed at 11 volts

10T at 11.5 volts will give 2958 rpm
11T at 11.5 volts will give 3250 rpm.

So, in your case you may want to look at a 10T pinion if the motor is getting loaded down but an 11 with give you a better head speed.

I would guess you wouldn't want more than 2400-2500 with stock woods.
Wouldn't they explode?
Maybe ok with the Pro Tech's.

3000 is getting fast for wood blades, but a lot of people have C.F. now
