most likely would depend on what motor is being used...

take a look at the head calc below...it is for the 550 only and supports several motors....make sure you change the KV to match the motor...it doesn't do it just by choosing the motor. It also alows you to change some gearing..

I'm waiting on an Eagletree v3 and I'll be able to check the figures better, I also have the stock 890 Gaui motor and a Z20 980 moto coming, so I'll check the accuracy of the calulator with some real nummbers.

Another very good headspeed calculator for the Hurri 550 is at ReadyHeli they have a section specific to the 550:

[url=http://www.readyheli.com/Online_Headspeed_Calculator_s/81.htm]

I ran the stock Gaui 890, and now the Z20 980, the calculated headspeeds were pretty close to my EagleTree results, I also tested my eagle tree results against my optical tach for accuracy. Usually a little higher on the calculator by about 200 rpm due to efficiency, and throttle curve on the Tx/ESC. Eagle Tree to optical is spot on, just need to get the correct number of poles from the motor if using the brushless sensor.

I'm running MSComposit 470 CF blades, I found the shorter blades helped improve my flight times on 2x 2200Mah.

With completely stock gearing (14t pinion) and Gaui 890 you will get about 1700 headspeed. About 1900 with 16t. The Z20 980 with 14t will get you 2070 headspeed.

Ken...thanks for the info on the Z20....I'm about to swap my Gaui 950 fo the Z20 980....so your info will come in handy. Just got an Eagletree also so it will be fun to compare motors....

Well how does your ECO8 feel now? I have loved my ECO but man does it seem to run SlOOOOOOOOw compared to the 550. I have not had a chance to bring both to the field yet and fly...it should be fun, but just hovering the front yard the ECO seems so docile. I still like it but the 550 is really a great heli for the price and it looks like the market is being flooded with spare parts and upgrades.

I hope ECo parts will be around for a while...Hobby lobby no longer carries them, but I understand they may come back.

Hi Mike,

My ECO 8 is semi-decommisioned now, I got the Hurricane as it's replacement last summer. I crashed the ECO 8 due to a radio glitch, and the parts were going to cost half what the Hurricane was, so I decided to go that route. I was only running the old brushed setup on the ECO, so my was real docile compared to the Hurri. I had gotten and started flying my T-Rex shortly before the demise of the ECO, so was getting used to a quick response heli. I really love my Hurri, really locked in feeling compared to the ECO, but not as twitchy as the Rex. Actually the CF blades I run on the Hurri are off my ECO, man I love those blades!

I've had a hankering lately looking at my old ECO to rebuild her, the damage might not be as severe as I originally thought, or told myself! Thought it might fly OK with the Gaui 850Kv?

I know you can still get ECO parts at fxaeromodels.com

ECO8-Ken..

yes I also got some spare parts from FXareo...

I'm not sure how the ECO would fair with the gaui motor...would you use 6s like the Hurri? or 3s ?..i have a brushless inrunner in mine and 3s2P 4400 lipos and get about 11 min of general flying. 6 min with 3300 10 cel nmh. I'm not sure how much power the main gear can take, I know others have hopped up the ECO I'm just not sure it's worth it when you already have the Hurri...maybe get a cheap brushless outrunner and esc and going from a brushed will seem like a huge difference. The ECo has a lot of "soft spots" like the soft main gear, thin main mast, feathering shaft, etc. I would not try to overpower it. I recived 2 18c 2200 lipos with my 550 that are absolutely usless..they puff and get real hot, as a 3s2p 4400 pack on the eco..they are great, so each heli has it's spot in life.

So far I love the 550, I went to the metal main grips, CF 515 blades and a few other minor bling parts. I also bought a CF version but will save that for a later date, maybe retire the ECo and equip the
the CF with the equipment. I am also going to the Z20 980 motor, but I want to take a few more readings with my Eagletree first.

I have had recorded 3 flights on the stock motor, 515 go quick blades, and both 2500 and 3300 polyquest packs. Hover rpm is about 1900 - 2000, amps are about 18 -20 High amp pegged at 62 and batt temp was about 110 deg. 15t pinion all other gears stock gaui

I "love" the way the cf blades "beat the air" has a real distinctive sound.

I'm running around 2260 with the RCP 500 CF blades.

z30 800Kv on 10S (2x2300MaH 5S). Jazz 55 ESC. 5 - 6 mins typical flight time doing agressive sport / aerobatics and some (limited) 3D.
