e-Gaui Hurricane 200 & 550 - EP100 > Hurricane 200 Swash uniball and plastic pulled out on first flight, no damage.

Okay, I got the first flight on it this am. got the tail rigged, gain settled at 40%. I was thinking of pulling the paddles wieghts off, good thing I didn't. this thing is squirlly. I just think the links needs to be run-in. clicked into idle 1 at 90% flat curve and it was scarry fast. clicked back out to N and landed.

upon postflight inspection, I found the black plastic piece that surrounds the uniball, pulled out of the swash and was sitting under the mixing levers. the swash was just wobbling around without that piece. good thing I landed and gave a look over.

going to either epoxy or green loctite that back in. hope it holds.

Anyone ever have this happen yet?

Thanks Rick

I would use epoxy because loctite can make some plastics brittle.

No, I haven't had that happen, but I had the same experience in terms of very high headspeeds in idle-up mode.

I am running a throttle curve of 75-80-85-80-75 in idle-up mode and while I don't have a tach to measure headspeed, it is more than enough! Any faster headspeed for me and the heli seems like it will just break apart. It flies well at this curve though.

Well I used some 30 minute epoxy and that seems to have held it, (crossing my fingers!)

I am also running an 80% flat curve in idle-up, 100% was insanely fast and 90% seems too much. I have to get used to flying it. I am also running +40exp on the cyclic. I haven't measured the pitches but I just did it by eye. Maxed everything out, then backed all my swash AFRs off till there is no binding.

For those of you running a DX7 / 401 / AR6100 ....

The only way I could figure out how to run the 401 on the AR6100 was to
1. (Input Select) and change the 'Gear' to 'Gyro'
2. Goto my ATV's for the Gear channel and set positions 1/2 for the Gear to be +40%/40%.

My question is, I have this setup the same way on my 600N with a 601 combo. The gyro gain is set to the Gear channel. What I noticed when I setup my 601 is that the 'Gear ATV numbers' for the gain are NOT what are indicated on my 601 amp. IE: for a AVCS gain of 30% on my 601, my ATV's on the gear channel are higher, in the 50's. The only saving grace on this gain guessing game is that I can visually see the gain numbers on my 601 display.

With the 401, I have the gear ATVs at 40% but I am not sure if it is truely 40%, given the situation with my 601.

How have you all setup your 401s with an AR6100 (I am using the 6100E) and a DX7?

Thanks, hope you can understand what I am trying to say

Well, its flying good. Got the swash fixed. Tail is holding nicely. Links are smooth. Excellent. Can't wait to fly it in the hangar!

Damn this little heli looks cool! Makes the Trex 450 look like a 90!

Mike, any way to loosen the links, I have a few tight ones and I feel like I am constantly chasing the heli. or, do they wear-in after a few flights?

Using smooth jaws pliers, gently squeeze the links while they are on the balls. This compresses the plastic and loosens the link.

Every heli that I have looked at had links that fit perfectly most of the time.
When they didn't, I found that there was a piece of plastic flashing inside if the link. A quick trim with the knife and they were perfect.

I received a few mail notes that describe chasing just as you have. In every case we found one tight link that had a piece of plastic jammed in it. Every link should be very very free.

I respect Terry's input but I have never been a fan of squeezing the links on our bigger machines and I certainly wouldn't do it on this little heli. They are too fragile.

Take a few minutes and find the source of the bind. Until you get rid of the bind, you will always feel like you are chasing the heli.

I prefer to NOT squeeze links, but there are no link sizers in this size, and when doing my EP-100, I didn't have any spare balls to make one.

So I squeezed, GENTLY, and it freed up the links. And my EP-100 many that were just plain tight, no bits or flashing.

Will go over the links individually and check for the flashing. Yesterday I had to fly it. The wind was calm with a slight gust every minute or so. Anyway, I got squirrly and landed it in the grass. It tipped over, didn't break anything but the spindle, or atleast the screws holding the grips onto the spindle are bent. Can you order the spindle seperately? Going to be ordering some spares for this thing here shortly.

Anyway, I am happy with it, just have to make it more stable. Hopefully after I loosen the tight links, it will be.

thanks for the help!

tight links still

Ray,

I went thru the tight links today and couldn't see any flashing. I also went and pinched them with duckbill pliers while moving the link on the ball, hoping that they would loosen up. They didn't.

Any other ways to loosen these links up without a ball link resizer?

Thanks,

One method suggested by Ray H. was to polish the balls with fine sandpaper. You could also maybe use 1000+ grit sandpaper in the inside diameter of the plastic links to polish them up a bit. I'm sure there are other ways.

I gotta check this heli out in person. Let me know how it compares to the Trex 450!

Polish your balls lol, kidding right Dan!

Seriously, I would, but this thing is tiny, both the links and balls are very tiny. I just ordered a bunch of spares from Jon and Jen at R/H. I believe I ordered both balls and links. Once the balls get here, I plan to score one up and use it as a ball reamer.

doings

Rick, PS, get bigger balls and problem solved!

I sold my MicroHeli/Heliup/Align-blinged Trex to my friend Joe (the full scale pilot I introduced you to at the funfly) and have since purchased a Mini Titan for a smoking cheap price and have been getting that together to fly. My Jazz esc had problems so I sent that in to see if they'll offer me a cheap replacement. Though I do have a CC45 arriving today for a ESC that has better domestic support.

I haven't been flying much due to not having a flyable machine just yet. Besides that, I've been busy working on articles for the magazine. One of them was published in the Feb 08 on the ESky Lama V4, just the kind of heli you really need to polish your skills with.

6 nice smooth flights today, no 3D yet

Well boys, I got about 6 flights on the Hurricane today. I don't think my balance was good, it was tail heavy the first couple of flights. Got my links lubed with dry teflon and they free'd up quite abit. Not totally free but 80 percent better. Moved the gyro forward more tonite and will try and see how it behaves tomorrow.

In Nomal, I am running 70%, Idle1 is 80%, Idle2 is 90% throttle flat curves. Haven't done any 3D until I get the balance better.

The tail is holding but could be slightly better.

What gains on the 401/3154 are all you running?

Also, what % expo r u all running ?

I am running a 40% expo and the gain on my 401 is set at 22%. I know that seems low, but any higher and it hunts. Holds very well.

The radio I am using is a Futaba 6exc (6 channel).
