I know its not recommended to use sub trim to make the servo arms 90 degrees but since your limited by the single arms do you use a little sub trim to make them perfectly 90? How are you guys getting 90 without sub trim?

ROCK,
If you are using the DX6i, it's ok to use sub-trim as it doesn't screw up the CCPM mix at all.

Yes I am using the DX6i. Thanks for the help.
I know each servo is different but just curious, what do some of your sub trim numbers look like?

Jim I am useing the third hole on my tail servo and I can only crank my gain up to 43 percent on my DX-7, am I to have a certain setting on the Dashpot gain on the gyro itself to achieve a higher gain on my DX-7?

Gyro issues

Hey everyone,

I've had my B400 for about a week now and absolutely love it! Great power and response, my only problem is that I can't get the gyro set up right. Here's the deal:

I have the rod moved up to the 3rd hole (middle hole really) in the servo horn, I centered the hub on the shaft using %50 gain in the radio (this turns the gyro off), but even with %70 percent gain ser on my DX6i (which is actually only %40 gain in HH mode) my tail will bounce a little bit, but is also not strong enough to hold the tail solid. I know it's possible just because of the videos shown here. Should I stop using the radio and dial this thing in with the gyro itself?

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks,
Adam

HEY YOUTH FLYER

I mounted up My Radix Blades last night and discovered I had to use 4 shims on only one Blade, to get it so it Doesn't move with any slop up & down in the Blade root.

I tried to mount one Blade with the Amount of shims you recomended, but the Blade still moved in Between the root up & down

I ended up useing "2" 0.25's & "2" 0.15's top and Bottom of the Blade to get it so it fit w/ no slop

I've Emailed Tech support at Curtis YoungBlood to try to find more Shims.

Is that Wierd ?? or what ??

every heli is a little different, ( think outside the box)you can go to the local hardware store and get some plastic washers, just take a shim you have and they will help you match it up with some thing that will work. I got two washers that make it fit perfect with out fighting with those little shims trying to keep them in line while inserting the screw.

About the rudder servo...

I too am playing with my gyro - but have set up like the video on Helifreak - and it's 'ok' - but here's my concern. As I look at the tail rotor, the motion of the 'slider' that moves the tail blade pitch will bind if I allow the servo to travel at 80 -100% of throw - even in the 3rd servo arm hole. As I adjust the servo end points so the 'slider' just hits the 'stops' in the tail rotor, I get about 40% travel one way and 55% the other way. Is this normal or are you guys leaving the servo throw at 100%, which will bind in my case.

Thanks for comments.

mine is at 150 each way, however my dual rate is 75, it binds some but its ok. its alot better than it was in the stock hole location. my tail drifts at the beginning of each flight, but I can trim it out then it holds well.

Scott,

Put the rod in the second servo hole from center on the servo horn instead of the 3rd hole. I was having the same problem that you are and it would reach full throw before I even got to the ends of my stick movement. Since I moved it up to the 2nd hole it reaches the end of the tail shaft just as I reach 100% stick movement. This is with 100% on the endpoints.

Still, I can only do about %75 on my HH gain though and the tail still bounces. Has anyone here figured out how youthflyer got the tail so solid?

Well tonight I tried the last thing I could think of that I haven't adjusted yet and I turned the gyro itself down to %0 gain and it definately helped. I have my TX set at %78 with no wag now. All I could do is hover it sicne it was dark, but a definate improvement. I'll let you all know any updates once I can get a full flight into it.

Youthflyer - awesome vids and thanks for the tips!...

...stock out of the box, my Blade 400 had tail wag - per Youthflyer's recommendation, i moved the tail servo ball link to the third hole from the servo arm mounting screw...then turned the gyro gain up 5-6% to 70-71% - this gave the tail a more solid feel - it now seems to hold fine, even in funnels...

...the cyclic seemed a little slow so i added some shims to the head (also per Youthflyer's recommendation) - i added 2 shims on each side - this improved the roll rate...still seemed a little slow - i have now installed Radix 325's & hope that this will improve the roll rate even more (haven't had a chance to try them out yet)...all in all, it's been a fun diversion in an otherwise long and cold winter - one of the worst in memory...i also redid the pitch curves so i now have approx. +10.5 -10.5 in Idle Up 1 (out of the box it had +9 -6 in Idle Up 1)...

...one mod i tried was adding some neon orange trim to the canopy to improve visibility and help with orientation (link to picture below)...

Hey GaryB doesn't look like you have done the blade grip flip yet, if you want faster cyclic do that along with removing those paddle weights, it will really wake it up

My tail servo finally went out on me, resulted in a crash. Lukily the local shop stocks all parts and I have a 9257

On another note I've just made a deal of a Lifetime with this major R/C GUY in MI..

He's selling me 3 Heli's set up by Pro's
1.Kyosho 30 RTF Gasser for $400.00

2.Kyosho 30 less a 401 for $250.00 ....they measure 46"L x 16"H x 9"W

3.Kyosho 42 VR RTF Consept for $400.00

I'm sure all of you know that these Heli's are worth Three times these amounts, and in the Condition that they are in with only 1 or 2 tanks of fuel run through them, Is an UNBELIEVABLE DEAL....

i should have done the tail mod !

I should have listened to the advise on the tail , about 10 flights and everthing seamed ok so i thought it would be ok . well the 11th flight was not good ! went in idle up did a couple of flips then the tail started to drift , then NO tail control..... BAMMMM ! all three swash servos stripped ,blade grips busted , main shaft bent , spendel bent , flybar trashed , main gear grinded . so if you havnt fixed the weak stock tail setup DO it ! or you will be ordering parts like me . next i have to figure out why i have so much tail vibration with higher head speed allso .....

modifyit15 - my weights kinda hold the paddles in place - if you take the weights off (or slide them to the center) what holds the paddles in place? - do you use zap or loctite on the threads?...how many flights did you get before your stock tail servo went out?...
