I don't know how much experience you have with set up ,and I mean NO disrespect......but on almost ALL HH gyros....ATV/EPA...DOES NOT AFFECT TRAVEL...it adjusts piro rate.......if you are trying to use EPA to set your limits you may have binding....and if not set the same(epa) you will have different piro rates for left and right......you will need to adjust the ball on the tail servo arm for travel.....just a thought if you are having tail problems

Did anyone try new tail blades as the factory tailblades are very flexiable. I just bought my 400 today and am still charging the battery but while I was at the hobby shop I picked up a set of align tail blades for $4 and they are much stiffer but you have to file the down a little to fit the tail grip 10 minute time investment should really help. This combo is much stiffer over the stock 400 setup. I am going to give it a try in a few minutes.

Jim,

I have enjoyed reading about your experience with the Blade 400. I have owned one for a few days now, so far I'm very happy with it.

One reason I have been waiting for the Blade 400 was for it's radio. The radio in my CPP has been prone to glitch and not fun to fly.

The CPP had as much bling as I dare spend on it. Brushless motor, G90, shiny bits that spin around and a radio that would toss it in the dirt in a heart beat.

I thought I could save two birds with one purchase, I got the 400. Wow what a difference! The little CPP with a AR6100 is a ball to fly again, and then some.

I look forward to reading your write up on:
(how I get the G90 to work so well is another story, and our focus is on the 110. Those that have seen it, can't believe it).

Hi guys, I just want to say thank you for the nice comments and PMs we've received. I have enjoyed talking to each one of you, and working through some of the issues. The main reason I went through all the different set-ups, servo types and so on was because I knew eventually I would be asked what if, or will this work ok, or does this fit. I was ahead of the game on this one. I have had our bird apart no less than 9 times trying different things so I would be educated enough to answer questions at the field and events we will attend in 08. I have returned our bird to stock configuration now except for the blade grip / mixer flip mod and Radix main blades. We plan on flying again tomorrow and hope to get some video in it's current configuration. We now have around 30 flights on ours and I have not had to replace anything due to wear.

I still have some questions to answer and hope to get to them tonight or in the morning.

I have updated my original post with video of the B400 in box stock configuration except for main blades and batteries. I have also added how to make T-rex tail blades fit.

You guys feel free to add to the thread with what has worked for you and some of the mods you have come up with. I'm interested in hearing what you guys come up with.

I will check in occasionally to see how it's going or if I have some new information. As always, feel free to PM us if you have questions.

Does this mod make a big differance? Has anyone flown it in each configuration and can tell what the diff is? Some people are flying the 400 stock configured and have good prports.

Are you still using the Align tail blades?
How exactly did you setup the 110 to work so well? Anything different than the B400 manual says? I see it says not to use DS mode for the stock servo.
JC if you have considered doing a setup video for the 110 ?

do you guys run the head speed 100% across the board in idle up?
i see you said it was 2900,,,,, also is it a stock pinion size you use and any other tricks as of new you would like to tell us?

The 2070s won't quite have the punch of the 2200 packs, but do weigh less, and is still a very good battery.

Yes, in IU2 we run 100% straight across. IU1 is 100, 90, 100.

We are still using the stock 10T pinion.

Right now our bird is basically stock with the exception of a JR tail servo, and new Graphite main blades.

No, we are back using the stock tail blades.

I set the 110 up pretty much like the G90 with the exception of on the G90 we do not use the remote gain. Not using the remote gain seems to cancel the drifting issue. Our G90s are up around 80% gain with no wag and hold extremely well.

Jim,

You are obviously an experienced flyer - are you using the stock DX6i, and if so how do you find it ?. I currently use a Futaba 6EXH on my 550 Hurricane, 3DX-500 etc. Although I am still a beginner (only on lazy 8's etc.) I now have more helis than memories available on the Tx, so I need a new Tx and was going to go for a DX7, but I can get a Blade 400 and DX6i for only a few $ more - is the DX6i good enough ?.

when i flip my blade holders and mixers do i allso reverse the servos and swash ? i did that mod back when i had my bcpp about a year ago and had to change my settings ... so far ive added the radix blades and lowered the servo link on tail but still dosnt have much punch .today im gonna try it with the 11.1 2250 , i should add that i havnt checked the pitch yet , its allmost like it has to wind up to have the punch i need , i guess idle up will cure that but i need to check my pitch curve first . theres no way i would even flip this bird the way it was out the box ,they say they test fly them before boxing ? i guess they need to move some parts stock

Mikej, we do not have a 6I yet. The machine we got was pre production and before the 6I was ready. We have been flying it with a DX7. Both are very good radios but the DX7 has more features you might want down the road. Tough question to answer.

Turner0022, yes, you will have to reverse your servos. Sorry I left that part out. We run our throttle curve 100% straight across in IU to give the bird punch. Our pitch settings with Radix blades are +12 & -12. This sort of throt curve is common practice with electric machines for doing hard 3D. I would not recommend it for a beginner pilot because of crash damage (high head speed) and battery run time.

I have mine Set up stock with the Tail servo mod, I havent done the Flip yet cause the stock cyclic seems very fast for my flying style but, I will do it in the future once I get used to it a little more.

By the way I think this heli is Wild I love it it is so stable yet really nimble.
I want another, and have been thinking about getting rid of my T-rex 450SA, because it has a way better power to weight ratio. its 5oz. lighter than my Rex, and you most definatly can feel the differnce. that Blade 400 of mine will get out of sight really quick if I am not carefull.

Jamie my question is this,
how can I get that TP V2 to fit better in thw canopy, its really tight. Do you have a picture of how you have your lipo installed??

Ok means the pics are being asked for could you PLEASE post a pic of how you have the 3400 in there? I bought one but it looks WAY to big to fit. Also did you use different screws then what came with the 3400? I just put on the HiTech servos on the front just need to get the 3400 on and get it all centered and I'll be ready to fly again!!!

modifyit15, Very carefuly. LOL He mounts the pack as far back as it will go without rubbing the motor and routs wires as pictured. Canopy just fits without rubbing.

stitch1, we are using the stock servo now and I did not take pictures while the 3400 was in. The servo fits fine. I used the second hole up from the bottom and used longer screws with the same thread along with a washer under the head. I did not use the included servo gromets or screws. I used 1 screw per side like stock and had to clip the rib off the servo case to allow it to fit flush on the aft mount. I used a four sided servo arm to find one that was 90 gegrees and used the second hole out from center. Clip the other 3 sides of the arm off to keep it from rubbing anything.

Also note the wheel collars I use to keep the rod from sliding. They just clear the linkage and sure make puting the canopy on easier.

If you put just a touch of taper on the graghite canopy rod and smear just a touch of silicon grease on the ends of it, the canopy will be much easier to go on.
Youthflyer, are you still using the original servos? My son has eighteen flight on his B400 and we have lost two servos already. The tail servo locked all the way to one side at the beginning of the eleventh flight and the right rear swash servo quite on the seventeenth flight just as he intered a forward flip. Luckly no damage was done to the heli either time but we longer trust the stock servos. I don't expect super quality from a $14 servo, but I do think they should last more than 70 minutes of moderate use.
