Your welcome Mike. I have some more to add to my original post shortly. Knowing how us chopper pilots like to mod stuff, my son and I have tried several different combos. Hopefully we can save some folks money and keep them from buying unneeded items, or items we don't think work well.

Thanks Jim keep em comming!! I bought this heli to try electric heli's for a change. I've been flying glow and gas heli's for years now and I wanted to try electric heli's for a change of pace.

I have updated my original post with some servo information. The more time I spend with this heli the more I like it. Horizon really did their homework on this one and I love that it is not a T-rex clone. No matter what I try to improve it, we end up going back close to stock. The grip and mixer flip along with blade change have made the biggest impact on how it fly's.

Glad to here it Mike. It sure is nice not to have to clean one up after a day of flying.

Jim,

Good stuff.
Lovin' it, and I don't even have my B400 yet.
Tracking says it will be here Friday...fingers are crossed.

I also appreciate you putting the new info on the OP making it easier to find and digest.

Thanks.

Jaime,
I agree! I am one that believes that in the case of the Blade 400, alot of high paid people were instrumental in the design/development of the Blade. However, I am dissapointed in the stock OEM servos, my accident was a tip over which resulted in the main blades hitting the ground very lightly. If these were the HS-65mg, I would most likely be just replacing main blades. I think the design is good, not a TREX copy as you pointed out, but more of a Mini-Titan. I have been reluctant to replace the stock servo with other types that involves any modification, I am a stickler in trying to make what I bought (STOCK) work first, only because I have been in the hobby for 10 years, and have spent countless dollars in upgrades that weren't necessary. Yes, eventually upgrades are necessary, like the stock rudder servo and maybe the stock gyro, but not having more than a couple of minutes on the Blade, it would be unfair for me to make that determination at this time. I need to get it back up running and make a more objective determination.

I hope that Horizon takes note of what we are having the most problems with and come out with those upgrades first, metal and carbon fiber upgrades that cost money may not be what we need first, they sometimes only make things look better.

Jaime,
By the way, THANKS for all of support that you have been providing, I am kind of in a wait mode until servos and main blade show up at LHS.

DS3400g Seems to fix the week link........

Thanks for all the good advice here... I crashed today flying fast in my small backyard and bent a few things up and wanted to do a little work. I just spent tonight setting up my B400 with a Ds3400g tail servo.
One mod that I already tried was indicated on page 26 in the b400 manual. I tried the spektrum DSP75 servo since it can be run under the gyros DS setting. It was cheap and bought it. I was actually there to buy the Jr servo pack with the 3400 tail servo in it. The tiny dsp75 seemed better in Ds mode but I went ahead and fit the 3400 anyway. Wth my main rotor off, while I wait for a new main shaft. I powered up the 400 with this new tail servo and set up the end points (travel) and the gyro setting around 70% and let me tell you; THIS IS A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT ANIMAL! This is 100% like my Trex Se V2. I have no doubt at this point of the stock tail servo is the problem I had. Tomarrow I am out for parts to fix the main shaft and spindal. I'll let you know how it goes.
thanks for the advice again...
Jojo

3DChopper, the HS65mgs are definitely more durable and will survive crashes better. The 65s I used for testing were the resin gear servos and my son chipped a tooth off the aux1 servo in flight yesterday He was doing a tail slide with a high G pull out when it happened. He noticed something was wrong and landed with out incident. I have never seen a servo strip a gear in flight but it goes to show that anything can happen if the circumstances are rite. On the other hand, I tipped his 400 over in the living room the other night while doing some tail testing. I did not hurt the blades at all, but made a pretzel out of the head axle. In fact, the axle was the only damage. I had the stock servos in it at the time and was surprised it did not strip a gear.

itsjojo, you will like the G110 / 3400G combo. It has proven to be a very good set-up. We went out and flew today with a new set-up. I installed a E-flite G90 w/stock servo for testing today. My son liked it very much and made the comment that it works as well as the 110 / 3400 for holding power.

We had another issue today while flying. After doing some high load maneuvers the bird went out of trim on the cyclics. Up on inspection after landing, the swash was tilted to the right and aft. I am fixing to go check into that now and prepare the machine for tomorrow. I suspect that the roll ball link has pulled loose a thread or two but did not pull completely off. We have had this happen with our T-rex and now glue the links to the rod. The rod threads are not very pronounced and can cause links to pull rite off under high loads.

thanks for this! I'll keep my eye on my links. I don't think I will be putting the stress on my 400 that you guys do but non the less.

Better swash servos needed???

youthryder
Do you guys have thoughts on those stock servos in the new blade. I do have 3 Ds285s left over and just wondering if I should upgrade to these servos and better pushrods? Of course that puts the total investment for the B400 with the jr servos at $600 "UGH"! I presently have a aileron servo that is stripped. I think for starters I will put the original tail servo in its place...

Jojo, I would do as you suggested and move the tail servo to replace the roll servo for the time being. Install the 285s at a later date. The 285s will fit rite in with no mods required. The four arm servo horn will be the horn to use for the rite hole spacing. It has two short arms and two long arms, the last hole out on the long arm is the hole to use. You can rotate the arm 180 deg to find the one that is closest to being 90 deg to the swash.

Have you tried the 285's for fitment? I think the small balls have to short of at threaded shaft and the four arm servo horn may have to be ground down thinner with a dremel. I even had to to this on my Trex 450. Not much problem though. Thanks for the input.

Yes, we have tried the 285s. They fit perfectly. On the forward servo I put the balls on the inside. The two aft servos I put the ball on the outside. Just enough of the ball thread sticks through the arm to put a nut on for safety. The arms did not require any mod at all. You will have to move the receiver forward or turn it around though. The servo leads are rather short on the 285s and the forward servo lead just reaches with the RX moved forward. I took them out last night and put the stock servos back in. I should have taken pictures while they were in. Sorry!

I have updated my original post with some video footage. While it's not the best quality, you can see it flys very well and is very aerobatic with just a lttle TLC.

Awesome vids Jim!!!! Thank you!

Couple questions,

1. For those of us that never had a T-rex... What size tail blades are they? Will I need spacers?

2 Where can I get the shims to stiffen up the head? Size? Part #?

3. Is there a specific part# for the TP 2200V2 battery you used?

4. Wheres the best place to pick one up?

5.Anybody know where the JR3400G is in stock? LOL

Hi Mike Walters had the Jr servo kit. That is expensive though. You might call him (i think I gave you the number) See if he has just the 3400
