This is the only vid I've seen with a heli hitting somebody:http://www.runryder.com/helicopter/...ke-Crash-SV.wmv
Maybe we should ban all filming of modelhelicopters so that nobody begins with this dangerous hobby??

You can look at any vid of the pro's, and everyone of them could be argued beeing just as dangerous as the JK vid...
Most of them fly a .90 size no more thar 15-20 feet away from themselves and the spotter.....

To be fair, that video does NOT show a heli hitting anyone. It only shows a heli hitting a camera. I was present at that event and I saw for a fact that the cameraman got out of the way. In addition, the cameraman was well aware of the danger and chose to be in that position while the pilot was flying.

Both the pilot and the cameraman are fully experienced in RC heli flying and were all well aware of the risk.

Just found out the AMA is aware of this video {JK'S backyard flying}and it could and very likely may cause some serious repercussions for him.

Just because this didn't happen at an AMA sactioned field doesn't mean they can't deam him or anyone else stupid enough to post videos of themselves doing something hazordous with R/C equipment too reakless of a pilot and bann him from any AMA flying site and revoke his membership.

I think he is an incrediable pilot, but what he did wasn't ver bright and what those backing him here fail to comprehend or realize, is that if he "HAD" hurt someone or even hit a car or house in this video that any bad publicity from it reflects on all of us in the hobby, not just him.

Thankfully, the AMA realizes this, and would rather not have the bad publicity and I would agree, I don't someone else's stupidity to affect wether or not I get to fly or have any more restrictions placed on us because of it.

Id tend to agree with them if this is the case.

The BMFA and SAA would take action to censure someone who did this over here.

Its silly

Yes, it was Mark who was filming and it was on a tripod. The heli hit the tripod and knocked the camera over. Mark himself got the heck out of the way.

Edited

I fly my TREX450sa near the front of my building when I can't get away.. I fly my Hawk Pro in the park any other time, One of the reasons I bought a 2.4 Ghz radio.
I used to fly at the Club but after being harassed by too many Plankers, They can bugger off for all I care.
Parks and open fields are free and there is no-one trying to force me to fly to their liking.

Since the introduction of the 2.4 Ghz systems the flying clubs have started losing members and will continue to fade away, The safety that they once provided to FM users will no longer be required.
As far as meeting fellow Heli pilots the internet (forums) has stepped in to fill this position.

I don't see a problem with flying in a non-regulated area.
I don't fly where there is potential danger to other people and if I did crash into a house or car the damage is minimal, I fly a RC heli not a bomb.
There is more risk injuring someone while cutting the grass.
I certainly don't take as much care maintaining my lawnmower as I do my Heli.

As for disciplining someone just because they are well known is absurd. Hundreds of other people fly around their house and there are several videos that can be found on YOUTUBE.
You don't hear of them being banned from AMA events.

Makes you wonder how many cry babies it took to cause the AMA to even think of banning someone from an event.
If the AMA wants to start sanctioning people for flying around their house, they will soon see a sharp decline in their membership renewals.

This was supposed to be a fun Hobby but it is quickly turning into a battle for the pursuit of freedom and enjoyment.

Your right about the first part, this is supposed to be a fun hobby, but if one idiot causes it to be more regulated then it already is because he wanted to be a showoff, then it isn't going to be fun anymore for anyone!
But oviously you cant comprehend that.

Maybe there won't be any more IRCHA in a few years.
And in Canada we have MAAC which is the equivalent.

It's not one person thats gonna do it but it will be everyone who flies there heli at home.

Keep dreaming, considering it is the largest R/C flying event EVER, even surpassing Joe Knall event I would say its going to be around a few more years then you think!
