| Well, I decided to retire the tired 9251 that has served my 601 well for the past two years. My LHS had the new Futaba BLS 251 brushless servo in stock, and just had to try it. The gold case matched the gold annodizing on my Caliber 90, so it was a natural decision.

The servo was a drop in replacement for the 9251; I even used the same servo arm. I really like the new, shielded servo lead. It should hold up a lot better than the standard silicone insulated leads of typical servos when run by hot engines and exposed to fuel. I chose to wrap mine in braided sheathing, just to offer more chafe protection.
The gear train of the servo is metal, however it has zero backlash, and actually seems tighter than some nylon-geared servos I have. I'm sure these gears will wear in nicely and become silky smooth. The metal, gold annodized case is very classy, and looks well when installed on the tailboom. One thing I forgot to check was how hot the servo case was after flight...I'll get back to you on that, after I find my RayTech thermal gun.
So far so good, I'd recommend this servo. Especially if you're like me with a tried and true GY601; this servo will breath new life into it.
