I don't post very often, and have only recently started posting more often. I don't want to violate any forum rules. What is the best place in the forum to post bad experiences with vendors who advertise on this forum (actually, its not so much a bad experience, more like I've been flat ripped off for $200+ dollars). This post has been edited. This phrase is for those who did not read my latter post and were thus confused by these dots.

Dr.Ben:

I think he's talking about a commercial vendor, not an individual.

dahld:

You can open the thread almost anywhere. It does not mean that will stay open. I suggest you send a PM to Mark and hash it out, before you bash any of the advertising vendors publicly. I also suggest that you hash it out directly with the vendor. Otherwise, a quick review of the forum rules is in order.

Yep, I goofed and blended the "vendor" feedback and "classified" feedback into one. I edited (effectively deleted) my other post.

I will concur that Mark does not typically have an issue with ADULT, POLITE feedback about vendor trouble.

OK, here's the deal.

Well, two things first. I've tried to deal with the vendor, but he has vanished so to speak. As for him being a paying advertiser of Run Ryder, I don't think so any more. About the time he became invisible, his ad disappeared.

"Morton" of Just Canopies, located in New York, has stolen from me a Fury Canopy, and $135.00 for a paint job, and $15.00 for return shipping.

The short version is(as short as I can make it); I called "Mort" (as he likes to call himself), a few weeks before the IRCHA Jambore, and asked for details on how to arrange to have a canopy painted. He gave me the info, but said he was very busy getting canopies painted for the Jamboree. He said after the event, he could get one done in 2 weeks. I said I'd contact him after the Jamboree. Meanwhile I ordered a canopy, and in August sent him the canopy and the money. He confirmed later that he received both the money and the canopy.

Three weeks go by and I started e-mailing and calling. No replies. At week number 7, I sent him an e-mail that challenged his character a little bit. 10 minutes after sending the e-mail he called me on the phone, claiming a variety of problems as to why he had not finished the canopy or returned my e-mails, including his house being hit by lightning, and having to get his business ready for an "inspection" of some sort. I said I'd give him the benefit of the doubt, and asked him to simple tell me when I could expect the canopy. He said I'd have it in my hands within 2 1/2 weeks. By the way, a quote from "Mort" during that last conversion, "I'm an artist, not a businessman". Looking back, a more correct quote would be, "I'm a flake, not a businessman".

That is the last I've heard from him. Over a month went by with no contact. I asked him at that point to return the canopy in whatever condition it was in, and deduct from the $135.00 a labor charge for his trouble. No answer. Then I asked him to just return the canopy, and he could keep the $135.00. No answer. "Mort" has remained silent now for over a month, and I noticed the other day his ad on Run Ryder no longer appears. So, I'm out $150.00 cash, plus he still has the canopy I sent him. He won't even do me the courtesy of giving me my property back.

If he surfaces again, I'd recommend you stay clear, and take your business elsewhere. As for my loss, I've written it off. If anyone close to New York wants to pay him a visit, PM me, and I'll give you some ideas on how to greet him when you get there . What a flake he turned out to be...

You are not the only one...See here:

In his defense, he has had some health issues, but also to his detriment, he is poor at communication. Not a good combo...

Mort is in the hospital with serious problems for over a month. I too have an order with him but I understand you cannot paint in the hospital. I expect to get my canapoy but it will be a very very long time. He also does not have access to a computer while in the hospital. Even if he did he probably is not well enough to use it. Thus he cannot answer emails and since he is not at home he doesn't get any phone messages.

Sorry to hear you got screwed. Next time try Joe at www.canopy-FX.com and buy with confidence. He's an artist AND a business man. I purchased four canopies from him so far and not a single problem.

My surprise at how many people are for sale is only rivaled by my shock at how little they cost

GyroFreak,
Well, if what you say is true (I've got no reason to think you'd be lying to us all), then my small loss seems minor compared to Mort's problems. I'll apologize to Mort via his e-mail, as my very last one to him to put closure on the whole affair, bordered on being a little nasty. I hope he will someday be able to catch-up with all of it, and get back on his feet. I still wouldn't do business with him in the future, as I would prefer to send my money to an artist AND a businessman. Thanks for the info. Dave Dahl.

Mort has had health issues in the past and has had the same complaints that you have presented. As bad as it may seem, I've NEVER heard of anyone that Mort has screwed to the extent of taking their money and not providing a painted canopy, long wait nonwithstanding.

I've honestly not seen anyone other than Dave Yost who could compete with Mort not only in terms of quality but also in terms of longevity of the finished product, regardless of price.

Hang in there. He'll make it right sooner or later.

More than 2 weeks for a painted canopy is too long imo, especially if promised that in advance. I heard of people waiting for months for a canopy, why? Always told to be pantient blah blah blah.

I paint my own canopies and my frist stripe job with masking and everything took me oh maybe a few hours max. Seriously some of these painters seem take a bite off of more than they can chew.

I understand health issues and things can come up and what not, but how hard is it to have a friend or family member check voicemails and e-mails and reply to customers who are wondering what is happening for months on end without any reply, unless he's totally imobile and mute?

Seriously, come on, what is the time frame of 'sooner or later'? Too many other painters out there who manage their time properly and take on the right amount of orders in a time frame to be able to deliver on time and when promised.

Can you supply a link to Dave Yost. I have already requested a quote from Canopy-FX. My canopy from Mort sounds like it will be a long way off so I want to find another supplier while Mort recuperates.
I hope Mort gets well and finishes his backorders but I suspect he will not be doing any more new orders.

Read my second post. You can't delete a post entirely, so the best you can do is place a string of dots.

That seems kinda picky, but it would be better to type edited or deleted post or something like that.

QUOTE FROM MY SECOND POST TWO POSTS DOWN FROM THE FIRST: I edited (effectively deleted) my other post.

It doesn't get much clearer than that. People jump in halfway through a thread and never take the time to read any follow up posts. Still, for those who did not find the explaination in my second post sufficient, I have ammended the prior one to satisfy them.
