Did this in flight. What went wrong, and how do I avoid it in the future??

I got a helicopter for my girlfriend,
It was a good trade!

Mesh wasn't set properly, find the hi spot on the gear and set the mesh to that, then run it a tank or two and it settles right in.

So you are saying it was too loose?

Hoi,

Yes, to loose!

Had also broken gear but was building issue from previous owner.

Gear need to be tight and wil run in after few flights.

Replace it by the white upgrade gear that comes with the newer kits.

Yes,

As Mario said, the gear needs to be set on the hi spot, when you rotate it you should be able to feel a snug area, set it there and it will run in.

When you say set it there, do you mean use the paper or plastic strip method to set the mesh, or set it at the hi-spot without any paper or strip of plastic???

I set mine on the hi spot so there is no backlash, I've set it with a pice of paper and without and for me it ends up being the correct distance either way, you'll get a feel for it after you do it a few times.

try the helical gear setup, it made ours very quiet.

Gear mesh

The blue gear is picky on how much back lash is left unlike the New helical cut gear set, but on either gear as Foxden and Mario stated should be set off the high point of the gear. The high points can be found by snugging the mesh up until the gear will just turn with drag, as the gear turns you should feel a spot where the gear slows and this is the high spot, mesh off this point.
Thanks guys

Hurrican 50 stripped gears

I had this happen as well after a Re-Build.

I had the meshing perfect, but after a crash one of the top screws in the engine mount stripped - I locktited it in but must of moved - thus stripping my gears as the meshing changed in flight...

I was hovering - quite a bit of gar noise, then bang - stripped the gears...

I am still waiting for a new engine mount - taking some time to come in though ?? I hope that this is all that was wrong...
