CF Landing Gear

I installed the carbon fiber landing gear on our machine today. I think it looks cool and is much stiffer.

Original landing gear weight - 5 grams
CF gear - 5.3 grams

Thanks Mike, good info! Will certainly give it a try once its finished being rebuilt.

Hey John,
I can't get the old tail boom into the CNC mount, did you have to sand down the boom to get it all the way into the mount, my screws are very loose and I can't seem so get the boom all the way thru?

PS: On this issue...
fiberglass canopy
Quote
man i wish the fibeglass canopy wasn't so brittle. mine is cracking already. i wish there was an aftermarket one with a cool paint job!

if you have some kevlar thread, or even standard cotton thread, cut a bunch of strip off the same length. Mix yourself up some 15/30 min epoxy, using a acid brush, brush a thin coat of epoxy inside the canopy where the stress areas are. lay some of the threads down on the areas, reapply another coat of epoxy. that was a tip I learned from my buddy DH. works great for strengthen.

Along with my parts that came today, I ordered another fiberglass canopy, they just look way better, IMHO. gonna have to paint another one up next week at work

Hey john, if you want, ship me a spare canopy if you have one, I will paint it up for you and ship it back to ya if your interested!

tail boom

yes the stock tail is a very very tight fit.
but the micro-heli cnc tail whent on with ease.
come on try the cnc tail it's very smooth and gets rid of the ball links on the blade grips so there isn't a danger of those poping off anymore.
-Rick on another note i flew my 200 today and got through 6-packs
hovering around! i'm finally getting used to the performance of this great little heli. it's my new favorite!
thanks for all your help rick!

My attempt at the "Z06" GY401 gyro mount

I decided to try the modification that "Z06" kindly posted about creating a separate platform for a GY401 gyro. Here is how mine came out (please excuse the messy wiring!). While I wouldn't say that this makes a world of difference compared to having the gyro on the battery mount, it does seem a lot easier to get a good CG because now the battery balances the heli without having to hang it far off the front end of the battery tray. Also, the gyro is now about as far from the motor and ESC as it could possibly get. The first picture is how it used to be set up. Please ignore the last two photos, they are old and I coudn't figure out how to delete them.

Ben, thats a great job. I am rediculously obsessed so those pigtails coming off the tie-wraps would drive me insane, but besides that, that came out awesome. If you don't mind me copying your idea, I would love to try that...

few questions:

does it clear the canopy?
which canopy are you using?
what is the length of the entire plate?
how far off from the front of the frame does it hang?

Tanks!

Z-POWER S300 KV5150

some guy on the rcgroups forum says he has this motor from fung and says it has more power than the stock 200 motor.
http://flying-hobby.com/catalog/pro...roducts_id=2313

Specification:
No Load : 1.2 Amps
Max Current: 13 Amps
Max Eff: 90%
Poles: 6
KV: 5150
Weight: 26g
Shaft Diameter: 2.3mm
Motor size: D25.6mm, L15.5mm

Suggest :GAUI EP100/200 + 7.4v LiPo Battery
i may try one in my other 200 and compare the two heli's.

Yep, brutal wiring...sorry you had to see that!

Here are the answers to the questions:

does it clear the canopy?
Yep, I have both the fibreglass canopy and the light plastic one, and it clears both, but it is tight!

which canopy are you using?
As mentioned above, both. I can just move the battery for CG so I am using the lighter plastic one for now ('til I crash!)

what is the length of the entire plate?
The plate is 8cm long (3 and one quarter inches)

how far off from the front of the frame does it hang?
The plate sticks out 6cm (2 and 5/8 inches) from the edge of the frame. The one that Z06 did looked to be a little shorter, but I wanted room for my receiver on the plate as well as the gyro, so I made it as long as I could within the canopy limits.

Good luck...I have to get back to re-doing the wiring...(LOL)

lipo's

hey Rick,
I flew 8-packs today! it was a little windy here at the begining of the day but calmed down before sunset. I noticed a few things about all the differen't brands of lipos i have for this heli.
I have so many because i used them for my co-ax heli before i got the hurricane. one lipo stood out today.

The DN-850 MaH lipo.
1- it only wehghs 46grams
2- it had an extremely consistant power delivery. the headspeed was almost linear until it was time to set the bird down.

The Xtreme lipo's
1- a few grams heavyer than the DN
2- lots of power upon lift off then after a min. of flight power drops slightly but maintanes the rest of the duration of flight.

The Mega Power lipo.
1- the absolute lightest of the bunch at 42 grams w/velcro on it.
2- power delivery like the xtreme lipo.

The stock Gaui lipo's had the shortest flight time for me!

Oh and the fiberglass canopy sucks! i haven't had ANY CRASHES and it's cracking around the screw holes!

Hey Rick got any video or you flying your hurricane?

I haven't really managed to break my bms306 servos. What problems are you having in a crash? The gear sets are like 99 cents. I have found that when mine seem like they are stripped, its just that the case needs to be sealed tighter. I have been sealing them around the case with scotch tape. Tape around top to bottom to seal the case tight.

As for the batteries, are there any decent batteries for this thing yet with TP balance connectors?

servos

I haven't crashed yet. i don't have any problems with the BMS servos i just noticed ricj crashed and needed new gears for his. so i was wondering if there was a tuffer servo out their that fits in the 200 rameset is all.
