p.s. im using a 6100 reciever and a 3154 on the tail... im using the patented stacy "behind the battery gyro mount"... although i 180d my gyro to allow access to the controls... which i have seen in other builds... i coiled excess wire which i later read was bad... but i havent uncoiled it yet... not unless that is the problem.

I just ordered my 200 on Saturday from Heli-Direct they had one of their 24 hour deals going. My question is have you found it necesary to disassemble and locktite all hardware on this heli. This would be a big help seeing that rstacy and s76 seem to be putting in some extended flying time info. Not worried about taking it apart not new at this being an old school kit builder starting in the early 80's.Thanks All Walter Johnson

I did not BUT and this is a big BUT it is not a bad idea. I have had no assembly problems. Your mileage may vary.
John from Ready Heli told me that he did take his apart as a precaution.

As a side note, I upgraded one of our T-Rex 450s to a V2 head. Within 10 flights it tossed a blade because the feathering shaft screw came out. It is never a bad idea to check pre-assembled parts.

When I purchased mine, there were a few screws that were loose, the rear tailboom support screws, and horz fin screws looked like were just started, and not even finger tight. There were 6 other kits deliverd to the LHS at the same time, they were all fine.

Thanks guys I'll err to the side of caution and tear down and reassemble with locktite. One other issue some have had issue with the woodies pitchin off is the CA soak idea a succesful solution to this being Gaui is calling for a 3200rpm head speed. I remember back when we use to run wood blades all the time the root spacers were allways epoxied on wether they were wood our plastic.Walt

I had the same CG problems, so I am doing the mod for the additional gyro tray at the front right now. After completing the gyro tray, my plan is to continue to fly it with the 850mah, 7.4v packs I have and not go to the bigger packs, 'cause right now I am getting decent flight times and good performance (with none of the overheating issues), I am just trying to fix the CG issue.

I'll post some pics when it is done and let you know how it goes, I am just waiting on a couple of parts before I finish.

Jay, do you have a spare servo to throw on the tail?

I took mine apart to loctite everything, the frame was pretty tight, but the main shaft bearing holder part that screws into the frame wasn't loctited so its good I took it all apart. The big caution though is that when you put it back together, you have to make sure the upper and lower frames are spaced out enough, otherwise your gear won't fit in right. I got my main shaft sliding through the bearings perfect only to find out that my main gear wouldn't fit.

Its heavy too. I have the plastic lightweight one as well, but the fiberglass one is so nice. I did crash the heli a couple of times while trying t sort the tail out and the glass canopy didn't get ruined.

stabilizing 200 hovering

rick,
it sounds like you are an advanced pilot. so i have a question for you. i am having some trouble taming my 200. are you flying with the DX7 as i am ? if so what are your settings? i am finding the throttle is very touchy and hard to hover my heli. how can i tame this down. what are your throttle and pitch curves at? i am a novice pilot not able to 3D so keep that in mind.
thanks for any input.

after a ton of unnecessary trial and error... i decided to go back and re-setup my 401... all of it was just that the limit needed to be adjusted the tiniest bit from where it was and bam!... constant hold that is only lost if i throttle up too hard... so here's my new question... in my dx7, or any remote for that matter, is there a way counter the torque to keep heading hold even during throttle ups instead of getting a 30 degree torque wag? im running 35% on my gain... if i go to 40% i get wag... i am only on my second build, so the subject of programming is still a little gray to me... other than that... she flies great!

john,
you can tame your heli by turning your dual rates down ( aileron, elevator, and rudder ) below 100% on your d/r & expo menu... tame the throttle with a more gentle curve... that is really a matter of preference to you how gentle you set it up... now, as you can see, i am no guru... but these settings are keeping me in the air...
p.s. if my settings are no good, im sure someone will correct me.

pitch curve
30 48 60 70 80

throttle curve
5 70 86 89 90

my throttle curve might be a bit too steep for you... maybe you should lower the second point it will throttle up slower

jay,
thanks for the input it's mainly the hyper throttle that i am not used too. it can jump up and down super fast it has alot of power.
so when i try to make corrections when there is some wind i get out of my control.
i'll try your settings.

I'd stick with linear pitch curve even if just beginning. To me its kinda like cheating if you don't have full negative pitch.

If your throttle is jumpy, check to make sure everything is sliding freely on the shaft. If something doesn't slide freely on the main shaft, the heli will appear jumpy.

Jayphonic- If I am understanding you correctly in your post about the 401 setup, the heli's tail is swinging when you throttle up. Is that correct? If so then the only solution is to throttle up as slowly as possible as there are no settings to adjust on the gyro for that as the tail blades are not up to speed yet on throttle up so they can't counteract the torque of a "rapid' spoolup. Usually the speeed control has a "soft start" feature that keeps the tail from moving on spoolup by electronically slowing the startup of the motor/blades.
I'm not familiar with the speed control supplied with this heli soI don't know if there is a "soft start" feature.
I'm thinking of getting one of these little helis but the CG problems and the lack of reliable rotor blades are holding me off for now. I'm hopeing the manufacturer is listening and will make changes.
Thanks
Vince D

for the 30 degree torque wag, make sure your pitch range is as full as possible. The main problem is, the tail shaft is short. One of the tricks was to use 2 nuts on the tail shaft to space the tail rotor blades further down the shaft. Problem with this setup is you will snap the tail links off when trying to get the extra pitch. I have it done successfully now with a custom tail pitch slider that someone made a year ago, but I don't think they are around anymore.

When looking for max through, be very careful not to bind the tail pitch slider into the arm that holds the tail pitch arm. you have to check when the tail pitch slider is positioned such that the piece where the tail link connects to is towards the pitch arm holder if that makes sense?

vance,
does a soft start also apply to in flight throttle pumps or just spool up slowly? if you can hold off... you are gonna see parts for this little heli like crazy... it really is like a micro trex. as far as blades, plastic is fine as long as you arent doing 3d, for 3d... like everyone says dip the woodies in ca... they used to make cf blades for the pixy zap from what i understand so its only a matter of time. as far as the cg goes... im using the gaui batteries or the e flite 2 cells.. im using the fiberglass canopy... still have all wiring at full length and i have no forward flight issues and the cg is perfect.

rob is right. dont use my pitch setting... my pitch curve is causing the heli to turn left on throttle ups... i went back and forth between his settings and mine for pitch and on flat curve, 0 25 50 75 100, it holds way better... thanks rob! hey rob... inquiring minds want to know, why does the change in pitch curve affect the holding of the tail?
