Dammit

Been waiting on the postman for 2 days. I ordered all my stuff from Jon the end of last week. Its wierd, I ordered the kit, tail servo and the rx first. Then I ordered the servos elsewhere the next day. Then on the 3rd day I ordered the packs from Jon. I received the packs first, the servos yesterday, and I'm still waiting on the kit. Tracking shows its here in town as of yesterday afternoon. Should be here this morning.

Guess what I will be doing later

I hate waiting for the ups guy. One time he wouldn't leave my battery but he left my trex 450 kit in the door.

Wesp,

Great write-up man! I read the whole thing, excellent work. I noticed that in the few later pics you had moved the ESC more forward abit. I also found the same challenges during setup. Tail slider was a PITA to setup. Moving stuff around to find a decent C of G was a task. I started with 30% Expo on the DX7 but have been flying with 45%. I painted the canopy and fins today at work, will post some pics in the next day or so.

Thanks for posting!

Wesp -

I am expecting my 200 any day now so you've just helped me out big time.

Thanks!

Now I just have to find a good EP200SE model for RealFlight...

Check out the paint job I did today! Gotta see it in the sun, the florescent yellow and metallic blue are really bright!

Sorry for the large pics.

It seperated on the very first flight. No 3D, just trimming. I couldn't get it to trim, landed and found this. Cleaned off the old glue and reapplied some thin CA, good as new!

Futaba 3154 digital, works great but I can't get it from tourqing nose left in Idle2, 90% flat curve. In a hover, when I punch it, the nose goes left. Got the gain at 49%, as I understand it with the DX7, the percentage is half of the actual number (99% in idle-up, 78% in N).

Any help with keeping the nose in one place during a hard climb is appreciated!

thanks for the comments, I am happy with the way it looks. Now if I could just perfect it's flight!!!

Set your Gyro to Rate mode. Spin it up to desired HS and hover.
See where it pulls and adjust the servo up/down the boom till you cancel the drift.
If you have 401 on it set it to Rate mode and trim it (this is the easy way), but if you need a lot of trim its better to adjust the servo.
Dont forget to rebind with desired trim so 401 will set neutral properly.

If you have DX7 gyro sensing set it over 50% for HH.
Ratio is 1.44:1 as I recall.

If it kicks during punchouts you will need another pinion so your motor can cope with the HS drop (or just use governor )

Hope this helps

Ok, got the tail sorted out!

In the DX7, you can either use the "Gyro Sense" option which allows multiple gain settings which you can assign to different f-modes. Using this method, no matter what gain value's I inputted for idle-up, I couldn't get it to wag, so therefore it wasn't high enough to hold during hard climbouts.

So, I changed the method from 'Gyro Sense' to just using the 'Gear Switch' with either Up/HH, down/Rate mode. Set the gain to 80% in my DX7 (which is roughly 40% actuall gain). As soon as I spooled up and flipped into idle-up, I got some serious wag. Which is great because now I know that everything is perfect with the gyro and the setup. So, I landed and set the tx to 58%(28-29% actuall) and tryed it again.

Perfect! No bogging, no torquing on climbout, rock solid and smooth.

So, for what its worth. My DX7/401/3154 tail settings are ...

401 in DS mode
401 100% on the limit
10mm ball from servo center
29% gain in idle-up

ROCK SOLID !!!

Thanks guys!

PS: how bout that paint job, flew it today, could see it over 200ft away with no problems!

PS, flew today with the woodies. They were alot crisper in flight, tracked better, and had alot more pop. I threw on some halographic tape on the ends to see the 'disc' a little better. Good improvement! Also, sprayed the tail belt down with some dry lube silicone spray (solvent-less), spun really nicely!

Hi guys -

I have the Light Combo SE combo coming from flying-hobby (any day now.... ). Does anyone with this combo have their settings handy as a starting point? Specifically I'm wondering if there are some useful jumping-off points for the gain on the Align gyro included.

Great thread, great input everybody. I'm not totally new to the hobby but I am totally new to this heli so I really appreciate the discussion!
