cf tube

for anybody that needs the info:

i think this upgrade was an essential part of beginning to work out my tail issues... and i also switched my tail servo to the other side... seems to work better... this tube is such a perfect fit... if you cant read the specs on the sticker they are

.157" OD x .098" ID x 24"
or
4mm x 2.5mm x 610mm

best thing i have done for my tail!

stunt-1 curve

hey Rick,
i just set up my Honey bee king II running the stunt-1 at 70% throttle and it's really smooth like that. thanks for the help.
the higher and constant heaspeed is really nice now. espaecially since i have a JGF brushless set up on this heli. it's super stable like this!

Don't slide the CF rod over the metal rod.
Glue the links in to the CF rod and get rid of the metal rod.

The CF rod with glued in links is 25% lighter than the metal rod and has no flex nor the drag of the standoff.

I did notice that the new wood blades are coming with plastic reinforcements on the root...

cf tail rod

i threw that thing in the trash... i just ca'd the ends into the rod at 90 degree angles, and adjusted the position of my servo till it was right (the CA seems plenty strong enough to hold, and, being hollow, the cf tube doesn't need anymore structural stability from the metal rod). the cf rod inner diameter is the size of the plastic ball link... if you want to do it the other way... you'll need a cf tube with a smaller inner diameter.

I was getting ready to change blades yesterday at your indoor event. (Great time there BTW) Chuck noticed that the new blades had root supports. I just got them in from Empire last week so I would guess that they will hit the shelves soon if they haven't already.

Very nice Ray! I will look foward to getting some. Did I tell you,
The LHS has now got the double links in. The cool thing is, they came in a bag with the spare radius links, and tail bellcrank!

the only thing with gluing the links into the CF rod is that you risk the CF rod hitting your tail fin. Thats what happened to me and I'm now redoing the CF rod to have a 2 inch section or so of the original metal rod so that it doesn't hit the tail fin in flight.

i have an 1/8 inch clearance to the tail fin... it sounds like your cf tube is too fat? what is the diameter of your rod? do you have a pic of what is hitting?

Rob,
I'm not saying that it cant happen but I am struggling to understand how it could. Whats different on yours?

ah, now I see the problem. since my heli is upgraded to the hurricane 200, I'm still using the original plastic tail case and tail fin. The tail fin on the minizoom is attached right to the case and practically hitting the end of the pitch arm slider.

With the tail fin stood off the tail case like it is on the true hurricane 200, that would be no problem. Sorry for the confusion.

have a question though, wouldn't it be better to use 3mm rod with 1.5 mm ID and glue metal rods into it? That way if you need to change the link end, you have no problems. How do you change the link ends if you glue them in?

that will work great for strength, it will work great for changing links... but dont forget that you will almost double the weight of the tail rod by doing this... i could make 3 full rods with the piece i bought for 5 bucks... and links are dirt cheap... i guess it comes down to whats more important to each gaui owner in their setup:

saving weight at all costs

or

ease of maintenance

for what its worth... put that metal rod away with your spare parts for now... you're this deep already... might as well give it a try
