well I was gonna ask about that, I've managed to take this heli in for a crash landing a number of times in my garage and while trying to setup this tail and I have not yet managed to strip a gear. I did have one strip out in flight, but I think it may have been damaged already or possibly a consequence of the case getting loose.

I would recommend taping up each one with scotch tape and they should last quite awhile.

Well, I had 2 crashes on this bird so far. First one was when the blades broke at the grip holes and ejected with the quickness. Second was my fault. First crash servos were fine, second all 3 stripped gears.

Gearsets I bought for like a buck a piece. Took me about and hour to take my time and pull out all the servos, replace the gears, reinstall, and center up. No biggie. I like em, can't expect much more from them.

I am using the fiberglass canopy, although my 9G plastic one is still somewhat intact. I wanted togo with the fiberglass to help with my aft c/g problem, plus it looks great.

hey boys....

GO GIANTS BABY!!!

GOING TO GLENDALE !!!

I went to the HS 45's because the other servos I had were like the 306's and always seemed to come apart a little and then feel like they were stripped. They just didn't seem to be well put together, but the HS 45s' are bolted together, although I am not sure if the internal components are really any stronger.

I have not yet been able to find any good batteries for this heli yet that have a TP balancing connector. I am still on the lookout for a TP connected battery and a set of CF blades.

Guys,

I was giving a look to these here, but they are a bit more pricey, they do come with the Hyperion balancing leads, but if I remember correctly, you can buy a Hyperion/TP adapter lead.

hey john, do you know the difference in weight between the stock tail assembly and the cnc one... im so on the fence about buying one... im afraid to make the tail too heavy as my cg seems really good without it... i just hate the plastic assembly... which i some how managed to break without even crashing during maintainance...

cnc tail

well it's funny you ask. i just went through trying to put a second one on my other 200 and it was a real hassel! it turned out one of the pieces on the washout/slider wasn't machined right and there was so much binding my servo would just bend the linkage rod! and this one was a bitch to fit over the carbon boom!
So as far as the weight goes if it's heavier it's maybe a gram.
they are pretty much the same weight.
If you have the carbon boom maybe not get this piece because it makes belt changes a real pain in the neck.

me too

the first one i put on was on my other 200. and i guess i wasn't paying good attention when i put it togather. also i was doing all the flying with my first 200 with carbon boom and stock carbon tail box. i dialed in the first one. then went to install the micro-heli tail on the one i was currently flying and started to come across these problems with binding. then i went to check the other one and it was the same. i narrowed it down now to the bearings that replace the origonal ball link set up. for some reason no matter how loose the screws are there is alot of friction. somethings note true on the geometry of this set up. so i'd say pass on this one guys!
sorry for the miss info before.

CG

now i'm seeing how important the CG on this little heli is.
i hovered my second 200 with the telebee as far foreward as i can get it. (on the inner frame side ahead of the mainshaft). and the result is this one i could hover in ground effect in my front hall(a very small area) easily! this one is more stable than my other one.
my 2-cents, john

Yes CG on this one is important! I was flipping mine inside, and even if mine is very stable upright(used forward trim) its a beast inverted because of the trim. I have since then moved the gyro forward and put the lipo´s on a special made carbon plate, that tilts inside the canopy. I will post a pic later... What a diffrence! Its now a breeze to flip it, even in a small space.

I think a good idea is to use a little heavier battery, the 50g is ok for normal flights, but a 60g would suit better for 3D.

I´m going to try the hyperion 20-30C pack. But boy, this is a very fun heli to play with.

i wanna see some pics of the battery tray.
i need to see where i can get carbon to make it??
i think i'll try those new lipo's too they sound great.
lot's of amps!

Rick,
We run that battery in ours. Its a little bigger than the Gaui battery but works very well and yes you can buy a balancing adapter if you need it.

The lower battery tray is only held in buy the tightness of the side frame bolts not keyed in like the upper frame pieces. Has there been any problem with the tray slipping out of the frames.Yogi

Thanks Ray, I think I might try the Hyperions out. I had them in my 3S plank last year and had 0 problems with them. I am going to wiegh the stock Gaui 800 packs today and see what the difference is between the them and the Hyperions.

After my last crash, I had the servos out to replace the gears. I meticulously setup the swash and links. Last night I had a chance to test fly it in the hangar (0 wind). I had to add 1 click of fwd trim, thats it! The C/G was spot on and the blades were nicely in track. I flipped it over and it was very easy to maintain a nice inverted patern. When the C/G was off, I had alot of fwd trim. When it was like that it was all over the place when inverted. Now it seems alot tamer inverted. I am also flying with the flybar weights off and it flips alot faster as expected.

Cant wait to see longer flight times. Right now I am at 5:00 on the Gaui packs with mild 3D.

3 Hyperions on the way!

John, I was seriously contemplating your helidirect 850 packs, but then I read your review of the 4 packs. Although you are having good results with the DN's, I never had any luck with both of the older verions packs when I ran them in a 450. They puffed easily and didn't seem to last as long. The Hperion packs are some of the best I have ever run. I hope they perform well in my 200!

Hey Ray, any new 200 videos of 'The Kid' at work, I would love to see a new clip of some sweet indoor flying!

Thanks!

hyperions

rick just ordered a hyperion. i noticed after i bought one that they are only 800 mah. i know they have a high burst current rating but i wonder how long the run time will be??

anyone know where to get small sheets of carbon fiber online.
