e-Gaui Hurricane 200 & 550 - EP100 > Hurricane 550 Stock pinion gear?

I will be receiving one of these in a week or so and it will be my first heli. I bought the metal head, CF version with the Gaui 1100kv motor and 75 amp esc. Does anyone know what size the stock pinion gear is?

Also would it be a good idea for me to switch to a smaller pinion to keep headspeed down and to put less load on my batteries? If so which one would you reccomend?

I'm kind of in the same situation, mine came with the 1100 kva motor, 50 amp esc, and 18c 2200 bats. The 15t pinion was ok for the older motor but way too much for the 1100..

I just put a 14t on but haven't flown it yet and most likely from everything I have read here will go down to the 13t...

You could also change to the new Revco gears and get many more options.

Even if I go with batteries that can handle the power I will more than likely use a smaller pinion just to make it a little more suited to my airplane trained hands. Is this a good idea or will slowing the head speed down not make it easier to fly?

Also does anyone know anything about Team Integy Lipo's? They have a 3600mah 20c pack that weighs a little less than an EVO25 3300. Thay are about 25$ cheaper too. I don;t know what type of balance plug they have or if they are even suited to heli's but on paper they look like an ideal candidate.

i think slowing the h/s will make it less twitchy and more stable for beginners..... dont know bout the batts but 20c should be ok..........

When I started flying heli's I was told to keep the head speed up for better response just in case you made a mistake. But this was with a Trex-450SE but not sure on the hurricane. I have mine setup with the 16T pinion with higher head speed and find it much easier and more stable to fly then the lower head speed. The response one the lower head speed is a little sluggish.

I think there is slow...and then there is SLOW..

Depending on what motor, blades, batts, etc you have will dictate what pinion you might use.

I started with the 15t but from what I have read this might be better with the 14 or 13t. I just installed the 14t and I'll see how it flys.

The few times I have had it out it seemed like the heli was faster than I wanted....for my flying style...still in the circuit stage with stall turns...a loop or roll (maybe)...

I just know there is a Huge difference between my ECO8 and the hurri. the ECo is 3s 3300 at about 1600 hs and I think the 550 will be 1900 or so with the 14t. Just wish it wasn't 31 deg outside...my old bones can't take the cold.

14T pinion sounds right with 2 3s1p 2400mAh lipo batteries. You will have to get a serial cable or you can use a 5s1p 4400mAh lipo battery but it is much cheaper to use the 2 3s1p.

actually you want a serial cable... so the two 11.1 v batts add up to the 22.2 volts (6s)

I think that is what you meant.

depending on motor a batteries, I have the RCP H18 1100 kv motor 1000wat and running the Revco gearing with a 21t pinion which is about the same as a stock 13T. I run 100% flat throttle curves and power and performance is awesome. stock 14t I ran about 80-90% throttle curve but I would get some bogging, Persoanlly I preffer to run a 100% curve and set the gearing to the head speed I want, my esc doesn't even get warm nor do my Evo 2500 lipo's or A123 packs. on the 14t stock gearing My 2100 tp packs got too hot. with my current gearing I can run about any pack I want and still get very good performance. I have concern with running a 13t just because their is not much contact on the gear with a 13t.
