How long does the main gear last? I mean I heard if you have abad crash it strips but is it pretty durable?
I spoke to an Align T-rx user today and he said align main gear doesn't last long. How bout mx400 and x400 main gear?

hi adam
if you have the lash set correctly it should last a very long time , there should be just a touch of play between the two gears , rotate the main gear around and check this every eighth of a turn , at each position you should be able to see a slight bit of movement between the main and the pinion , by lightly moving the main gear , if they are tight in one spot , you will see the pinion will move with the main gear , do not use oil or grease on the gears as it attracts dirt and wears them quickly

some people suggest using a strip of paper to set the clearence , loosen the motor , slip a piece of paper between the two gears , press then together , and tighten the motor , roll the main around , and it will eject the strip of paper , it should show little crimps where it fed through the gear teeth , you still want to then check for lash same as mentioned above

if there are tight spots in the lash , this is where the two gears are actually bearing against each other , you are just adding needless load to the gear system , this is hard on the motor and the gears , if the gears are way loose , they will tear each other up quickly also , HTH , dana
