I know all you guys already know this, but man what a sweet heli this MJ2 is! Did first flights today. First heli I've ever flown of any size where everything was perfect on the first flight. No fiddling or tweaking required. Trims and blade tracking were perfect right off the bench. And man is it a smooth flyer!

My only big heli experience prior to this was with Bergen Gassers, an EB and an Industrial Twin. They are both decent heavy lift helis, but nowhere near as nice as this. And both took a lot of initial fiddling to get to fly well.

Have I mentioned I'm impressed?

Glad to hear the Pleti didn't bite you

They truly are a smooth machine and from what I have read in a different league to the Bergens.

Good Luck with it Mike.

Regards

Fergus

The only down side is that its an interim platform. Its a work heli and will serve its purpose for a time, but ultimately I need a gasser for this project.

But I'm going to enjoy it while I can.

You dont need a gasser!

Just get bigger batteries

Tabb,
The project is to demonstrate autonomous refueling of a VTOL UAV. The MJ2 will help us get the auto landing piece done but you cant "refuel" an electric heli.

I was kidding, I am not a gasser hater.

Sounds like a great project to be a part of!

Just be forewarned though the joker will thoroughly spoil you

autonomous inair refueling. that would be awesome to see. wait until you see a flybarless mj2... then you're talking really, really, smooth.

Rhett... There's no power like E Power!

Not in-air refueling. I'd like to see that too!

Our project will autonomously land, refuel, and relaunch a VTOL UAV from an unmanned ground vehicle.

Actually, I'm not a big fan of the gasser for this application. The vibration environment is a big problem for an autopilot. I'm actually considering a Bergen Turbine as the next step.

In my brief experience with the MJ, I am already spoiled. We are definitely going to have to find a niche application for it long term.

If you had packs that plug in and out like a tool pack and you can figure a way to do a inflight transfer which shouldn't be much harder than hooking up to a fuel probe you could do a machine that could fly continuously.

Also there are some Milspec grade lithium cells that can can privide much longer flight times but of course at a cost and they're only one use cells.
