well I do like it, admittedly there are problems with
1. main centre hub being weak platic
2. cabin not fitting with a big battery
3. weak skids

only 3 problems is not bad really I guess, I have hovered it and it is really stable. I am sure I will love it when I get a decent cnc red head or I will buy the Align plastic which I do not want o do but will if I have to

I have the MX400 and the plastic center hub
snapped after about 5 hours running time.

That caused about 30 bucks worth of damage. I
got an aluminum hub from Tower Hobbies..PITA to
install but worth it.

I had to replace the skids a couple of times.

I made an extension for the canopy so the batts
fit better.

The main problem I have with the 400 is motor
heat. I dropped down to a 12 tooth pinion but
that did not help.

ESC gets pretty dang hot too...

I run 2200mah 20c lipos...they get warm.

My sons MX450XS runs cool as a cucumber...
Maybe I should get the same motor he has.

Nice looking heli tho...

The JGF 450 motor is only a 300 watt motor.
Your still operating on the verge of
over heating.

A JGF 500th might work ok...it will handle
about 450 watts.

An AMMO 28-45-2700 would be awesome. 518 watts
and runs cool as a cucumber. Avail. at Tower
hobby's

I have a JFG500th . After a hard 5 min flight it will be warm to the touch and thats it. I just bought a temp guage so the next time I fly I can post a temp reading.

i couldn't decide between the MX or the TREX

Got the MX about 2 years ago and I can say that I fairly happy with it. BY now, I think its more a trex after the upgrades......

I am not gonna lie, I hate this stupid thing lol. I wish I would've just bought a TREX when I got this, or now I wish I had a Dragonus, but eh oh well. I have this so I'll stick with it. I think the price is right, but it's cheap price wise because it is cheap quality wise. It's the little things that count: soft aluminum control balls, those crappy one sided ball links, cheapo plastic crap, etc. Mine is half TREX by now, which is OK I guess, were all gonna modify our helis... But should we have to go to another manufacture for upgrades? It's like buying ford crap for my Chevy truck. Sorry for the rant, but I seriously have spent more time trying to get this damn thing to fly good than flying.

I am happy with mine, current setup

Home made lite ply battery tray
Home made CNC G10 side frames
Heli max full metal head
MicroHeli Swash
MicroHeli full metal tail
No name CF main Blades
Align plastic black tail blades
GY401 and S9650
Align CF tail and horizontal fin set
Align XL CF Boom
3 x HS65
CC35
Dimension Engineering BEC
Align 430L BL Motor
AR6000 Rx
Ultra Deans power plugs
EVO25 2170 3S Lipos

Not a pure MX400, it's more of a Frankenheli, mix of Heli-max and Align and MicroHeli parts.

I got it for dirt cheap and flys pretty good, well to me anyways.

Cheers,

Gord.

Hi Adam,

I bought the heli from a local flyer, he said that he scanned the original frames and than used a cnc machine to cut the frames that you see on my heli...it's made of the same material as printed circuit boards...she had a few crashes and unlike the aluminum frames they don't bend and cheaper than the cf frames.

Cheers,

Gord.

450th

450th is an excellent choice. Something AB didn't account
for was the effiency of the motor and the fact that it's
an outrunner and the spinning can helps to cool it. After
a 9 min. flight my 450 th is hardly warm and I'm lugging a
TP2100 which is mildly warm and I'm retaining 11.1 volts.
You need to invest in a 35 amp esc however. This motor is
suprisingly strong.
