Miniature Aircraft Nitro/Gas Helicopters > Extremely tight fit...

I'm in the process of building my new Fury, but I'm having a problem getting the correct clearance between the clutch/bearingblock/driver assembly and the fan hub. The molded rubber dampeners are extremely tight, and even with some lubrication, I can't get the pins in far enough to get the proper clearance set. I was thinking of reaming them out just a little, but I'm concerned with premature wear if I do that. If any of you have had this problem, could you please let me know how you fixed it?

Thanks,
Chad

David,

First, I'm using an OS .91 in the Fury without a washer between the aluminum fan and the front bearing. I did the test that the manual suggested, and the hub/clutch assembly did sit flush without the rubber dampeners. Out of the machine, I can get the pins in far enough, but it takes alot of effort. In the machine, I can't get a good enough grip on the assembly to get it seated properly. I also tried using a little grease(Triflow) to lubricate the pins, but it only helped a little. Should I try using more lubricant, or do you think I should try to put the washer that came with the engine back in?

Thanks

Chad

David,

Thanks for the help! I'm going to try the dish soap. I think what's happening is that by applying grease to the pins only, and trying to push them in, the dampeners are actually scraping the lubricant off, so by the time the pins get to the back of the dampeners, there is no lubrication available. This time I'm going to add dish soap to the inside of the holes and the pins. Hopefully this will work.

I can't believe that something that should be so easy, can be so difficult!

Thanks,

Chad

Spit also works well.

You can also start the engine and run it at idle while pushing up. Get the engine into position as best you can before starting it, and have the frame to mount bolts just loose enough to let the mounts slide.

This will make it really easy to get the engine into place. A lot of the friction will come from the mounts sliding in the frames since it's really hard to push straight up without at least some sideways component. I guess the vibration from the engine bounces things around enough to remove the "stiction". The idle speed will change a little as the engine moves, but not much.

Thanks for all your help guys. I guess I didn't have enough lubricant in the rubber dampeners. I tried the liquid soap trick and it worked perfectly!
