If anyone needs some parts to reactivate his FP Schluter Heli-Baby (built 1976-1978), we have made with friendly support of Dieter Schluter a small series and all parts are available soon (including canopy, fan shroud, seat and rotorblades of course).

That is outstanding!

How is Mr. Schluter doing?

I met him a few times back in the late 1970's and early 1980's. After I flew a Heliboy demo in Long Beach CA, he told me I flew very smoothly, like him.

I still remember that after all these years (I was fairly young at the time).

Mr. Schluter is 76 years old now, has shortly written his memoirs and is often on vacation. Each time when I have phoned with him during the last weeks I felt he is at least mental in a good condition and we have agreed that he will design some tuning parts for the Helibaby in the near future. When the new machine is ready I will visit him, perhaps there is time for some flight pics.

Oh, old or new pics from Heli-Babies are always welcome, I would really appreciate it, if anybody send me pics or scans for the small gallery (info@minicopter.de). Thank you!

Me too...

Hello Gerd,

This really is great news. The Heli-Baby was the machine that first introduced the simple, single stage gear reduction and flat, alloy chassis design to the heli world. It has a very important place in RC heli history.

I will see the need for parts too. Plastic parts are needed the most as they are first to fail due to age and can't easily be rebuilt or restored. New is the only practical way.

I have never met Heir Schluter, something I hope to do some day. Back in middle 1971 I was offered a free ride to the FAI World's Championship in Doylestown, PA and I turned it down. When later, I was told Dieter Schluter was there flying his Bell Cobra I was very mad at myself. A golden opportunity missed! Something I'll never forget.

Thank you for letting us all know the news.

Mr Schluter was a pioneer in the rc heli hobby, I was a young man in 1971 I was flying rc planes back then and saw a heli at a funfly I went to out of the area.... I just had to have one so I saved my pennies and traveled to syracuse to buy my first heli the mini boy... They actually did fly good if we had a good gyro back then the hobby would have progressed alot faster I think....

Tom..... No "D" flying....

HI GERD

I went to the website you posted at top.....but it doesn't look like any site I have ordered parts from.

I am looking for a toothed tail drive belt system to fit my heli-baby.If you could tell me if that is available and the price, I would be greatfull.

Thanks James

Hi James,

look at www.minicopter.de then "Shop" then "S000-S999(Heli-Baby)". The numbers of the parts that are compatible with the Schluter original parts will be continued, so I have added an S at the beginning. New designed parts or parts that didn´t have a number in the past are between S980 and S999. We have added the last missing parts today, the puzzle is complete now :

What you are looking for is #S987:

Here are some details from the beltdrive, you can use the original tailboom:

A few questions...

Do you have any idea when you will have kits available?

Do you have plans to include a distributor in the USA?

Will your RUNRYDER buddies get a deal?

Thanks James

Do you have any idea when you will have kits available?

We ship them each day now, the first small series is sold out and a second series will be made soon when I know how many kits we must produce.

Do you have plans to include a distributor in the USA?

No. Old helicopters are a hobby of me besides the minicopter production. I have tried to keep the spare prices for the Baby so low that there is no margin and no lost. So a distribution of the Heli-Baby is not possible (also think about the small market and the current exchange rate). There is no intention to produce a lot of them. The parts for the kits were made in production pauses and we have soon some new projects that must be started. The main intention was and is to bring old original models in the air again.
The kits are an additional offer and so they are limited on these two series and nothing else. Crash parts must be enough at least for the next 10 years now. All the tools that were made will be conservated for a long life.
So find here some partners when you will order spares, then the (shared) shipping costs are very low.
Perhaps Joe Howard, our US-distributor, will stock some essential Heli-Baby spares like blades and shafts for you .

Brand New 2008 Heli-Baby Kit!

I want to let everyone know that the Heli-Baby kit Gerd is producing is absolutely first class.

I received my shipment Monday (01-28-08) and am very impressed. Imagine a heli of the mid 1970's manufactured with 21st century equipment. No shortcuts taken, the finest of fit and finish. I counted 7 parts LASER cut I definitely didn't expect the nice set of tools...

I've only looked quickly through the kit and parts but don't expect any problems. I just may add this heli to what I'm intending to bring to IRCHA.

Question for Gerd:

What is the suggested means of transferring the wood patterns from the drawing plan to the wood sheets? I know of the "carbon paper trick" but what did you have in mind?

Build?

Build! Hahahaha!!!! Build! Hehehehe!!!

Don't hold your breath, sorry to say, this heli is waaaaaaay down near the bottom of the list of heli's to get ready for IRCHA. Since it's new and not needing rebuild or restoration, it should be a snap to get together. You really are going to be impressed when you see the quality of the parts.

Are you expecting to receive any sort of assembly manual with it? I'm not sure if one was supposed to be provided and I only have the rolled up plan sheet.

Let's see if Gerd replies to this thread or my direct email concerning this subject.
