Unfortunately, these are the only pics I have from that day, but this was the demise of a $13k AP ship (PCM lockout). The camera was smashed into at least 500 pieces when the heli slammed into the concrete.

Futaba 8u pcm - locked out from interference. I had no control, the servos held the last position and it just started spiraling down fast from about 200'. I never got control back. The heli was a heavily overloaded, underpowered Vario (at 5000' and it hit the concrete like a ton of bricks.

The bad part is it wasn't even my heli. Man I felt awful, but there was nothing I could do to save it.

I was hired to fly their machine. I warned them about the possibility of interference and that they should buy a scanner for us to use, but they didn't want to. They wanted to fly near an industrial area and I think there was some 72mhz interference from the rc overhead cranes in nearby warehouses. We talked about that possibility, but they wanted to push ahead and do the shoot without doing any testing. It's a shame, but I could only do so much to warn them, ya know, and they took a risk and lost.

There wasn't much left of the machine. The camera was completely destroyed, literally in hundreds of pieces. I recall that the crankcase broke, most of the electronics were shot, and the only useable parts from the airframe were bolts, some bearings, and a few other parts.

Oh, and the foam noodles did survive.

my Bk117 ended up in this volleyball net after an engine failure and the auto that followed. unfortunately the touchdown point was too far away from where i was standing as it doesnt glide very far, and since i am only looking at where the machine is and not where its going, the net just happened to be where i was planning to put it. not only that, the net wasnt visible from the distance i was. from where i stood, the heli looked like it hit an invisible forcefield just above the ground. as i walked to the scene i realized that was a volleyball net. at least the damage was only the fuse which was repaired. the mechs suffered no damage at all. that one pic with me in it showed how annoyed i was about the whole thing
the last two pics are of my bell 222 and what a high tension powerline will do when you hit one going full speed. ouch! the powerline was so far away (and i like to fly waay out) i didnt see it. the heli appeared to have just exploded, i thought i threw a rotorblade.

Nice pics there CopterDoc - sorry about the crash, but when you can share good crash pics then it's all good. BTW, is that what they mean when they say, "Nothin' but net"?

Dang guys, when I first started to look at this thread I thought it would be depressing, but it cheered me up because none of my crashes have been anything near what you are showing. Yeah, I know, it's just a matter of time before I have carnage pics to show.

you are exactly right!
crashes are never welcome but they happen. a positive attitude (for the most part) will make the pain not hurt so bad.
