Mike,
Thanks for the insite on the Enya. This sounds like it's going to be fun. Wish I knew some of this before I bought it.

Enya 50

Hi Ken,

I am posting this reply with hesitation as I do not want it to be misinterpreted as a "manufacturer boast". So take it as you wish.

I have run many Enya 50's locally and at other events. For two years I had one that ran flawlessly in my GPH. Granted I do not run OS #8 glow plugs as I found for "ME" theyrun a little colder and do not allow a fatter mixture. I know that goes against the grain as many people use them, however I used the Enya 3's before I ever thought about working here at MRC. The Enya engines, that's a different story. Before being exposed to them in my personal ships, I ran nothing but OS and am very comfortable with them. Today being in my position, I have the opportunity to try all the brands and get a good appraisal usually side by side. I still run OS engines in my sixties and now the .91 that kicks ass. I would run Enya's but nothing is available right now. I have had a so so experience with YS. MY first .61 ate a rear bearing way too early, and the .80 has been OK. I got the same performance from a .61 OS on a Hashimoto EX tuned pipe.

In .50 size motors, my first OS, which I paid for, blew itself up after something went through the motor. I still do not know what that was. Before that final blow, it never ran consistently. In the meantime, I installed an Enya .50 in another Sceadu and yes I did have glitches setting it up due to intial set up brain farts. After repeated attempts I raised the throttle curve until it idled properly and flew consistently. Finally, it ran like my original Enya .50 However, to get it to idle, the curve was at 50%. After going back to the bench, I found my linkage was WAY OUT of linear throw. That's what I get for playing at 12:00 am. I fixed that, reset the radio and off I went. No more probs.

Many factors play in engine tuning as I have learned. Is there a way to make an engine run on all combinations, I am sure there is. However, time is expendable, so I want to do it quickly. Normally I use 30% percent Morgan Fuel, Enya 3 Glow plugs, and am now going back to 15 %. Hope to learn more if the weather holds up. This weekend is supposed to be nice

Anyhow that is my experience. I hope it helps.

Can't wait to see Richard's (vor503rf) Enya 50 flying.
I understand it's better priced than the OS isn't it?

Sceadu 50/Enya

I just finished my Sceadu, I am trying an Enya 50 for the first time. I will let you guys know how it goes during the next couple days. As far as engines goe, I don't think it is a heli's lack of cooling, or bad carbs - I think it is the person setting it up. (this includes myself!)

I've seen people using engines with no problem that a lot of people had problems getting it to run right (myself again!)

I remember the TT36/Raptor and all the problems people had getting them to run right. This guy in our club could set them up and get them running great, while many were swapping them for OS.

As far as the Sceadu, the only thing I don't like is the canopy mounting design, other than that, it looks like my Freya - simple to fix/work on, so I can spend my free time flying rather than building. After seeing them fly, and building it, I would buy another one!

It's Time!

Got the engine (Enya 50) in the mail today and installed it tonight,
did some idle tests, and it's ready to rock!

(pick your own inspirational adrenaline pumping music)

I spent 1 hour cutting out the Freya like aluminum mounts to use
for the YS-63 4 stroke. Then I decided to put the Enya in so I
could fly at lunch time tomorrow.

Heli for Lunch

Don't tell the boss that I just got back from lunch, if you can call 3 hours of flying my Sceadu with the Enya 50 Lunch.

Okay, in a nut shell I had a blast. I burned 3/4 of a gallon of Cool Power 30 and only came back because the sun was getting low enough to bother me.

The new Enya 50 is still a little rough and starting to make more usable power. The Sceadu flys just like the Freya and didn't seem to mind the wind at all, it has been a while since I flew a smaller ship. I don't remember them being this solid and fun, with the 12 ounce Sullivan tank my flights were about 17 minutes long! Back to work...

With the price of the Enya 50 being a bit lower than the OS-32 it makes you wonder if it would be better to recommend getting a Raptor with an Enya 50 as a trainer than with an OS-32

Sceadu/Enya 50

Well, I flew the Sceadu the last couple days (unbelieveable weather for mid-November!)... it was great!

The heli is very smooth with the 570 main blades, I'll probably try 600s, but it seems fine for now, running close to 1900 on the head.

I'm using an Enya 50, with an Enya 3, and the hover needle is at the factory setting, main is about 1.5 out), ran good. I would recommend this engine!

I kept having a problem with the 2 piece muffler coming loose, not sure if you can JB weld it together?? Have you guys had a problem? I really cranked down on the screw and I didn't have the problem for the rest of the day.

I'm running my Sceadu 50 with MS600mm blades and it seems to load the OS50 just right. Without the 600mm I kept overspeeding the head but now it seems to do just fine around 1750rpm and will pull 11 degrees of pitch at full throttle.
I'm running the stock two piece muffler on mine, before I even installed the muffler I used blue loctite on the screw that screws into the muffler as well as the nut that locks it down. Mine has 27 tanks on it and yet to come loose. I guess you better get it right the first time than keep fixing it later.

muffler

Yeah, I took it apart last night and put locktite on the screw, I don't think it will come loose anymore.

BRAVO!

When I started this thread I was sure that it would raise a bit of controversy. Well, I don't know if it matters much or not but Altech and Jeff Green have turned the Sceadu 50 into ship it should be.

As of Jan 1 2002 the Sceadu 50 will come with a DTDS system and a 3d bearing block. Both are quality upgrades to the kit. These are replaceing the 570mm blades which are being removed from the kits. Therefore allowing the buyer to get the blades of his or her choice.

With the above upgrade parts included in the 50 kit the price difference between it and the 30 is now justified.

BRAVO Altech and Jeff Green, thanks for listening to all of us in cyberspace.

Once the word gets out, I'm sure some non-US flyers might be tempted to source out a Sceadu from the U.S. instead of Asia he he he.....

This is because I think this promo is only applicable for the US market and all the screaming we do on our side of the world isn't going to change Hirobo Japan's mind on the stock kits' contents.

Marvelous job to you all and of course the folks at Altech/MRC.

Now if they can only get the S30 priced the same as the R30, we'll definetely see some rocks thrown at Altech's windows coming from TT.
