Well no my starter won't turn it over unless I loosen glow plug up almost all the way. Then even some times it won't turn it over and I bought the Hangar 9 Power Pro HD starter so it is almost brand new.

Just a silly question but in the pic looks like the back landing strut is backwards, is that a lens effect? you put it backward on purpose?, or should you double check what the guy at the hobby shop did???

Turning the rear landing gear backwards gives the tail more clearance.
Nothing wrong with it, if its what you want to do.

Huh did I put them backwords to be honest I don't know. Because I don't know what is the offical right way. I didn't put them the way the instructions said I put them like they are on my 30 and on my cp and my cx etc. I think that is the right way with the points or curves at the noise of the heli.

For your Hanger 9 starter, get the external battery holders and 2 7.2 RC car Nicads or NiMH batteries and wire it up so you have 14.4 volts. There was a nice article 2 months or so ago in RCHELI magazine. This will give your starter the punch to turn over the 90 and now the starter is portable and easy to take to the flight line without your big box, just the starter and ni-starter and off you go.

change the leads wires from parallel to series to go from 7.2 to 14.4 volts. Charge the batteries independently with any RC car charger.

If they are pointing forward they are "the right way" in the pic looks like the front one is pointing forward and the rear one backwards, anyway not a big deal and I know a lot of people like them "the wrong way" around too, that is why I asked if you did it on purpose.
Happy flying, and keep up posted as for how does it behave.

Your starter issues sound a lot like what I went thru with my 90.
My Sullivan Dynatron on 12V did not even get close to turning it over.
The same starter had no problem starting a 180 in a plank.
The 90 heli engines have insane compression and some engines have more than others.
There are many 90 helies at our field and all start easy except that no ones starter will turn mine over reliably.
I talked to OS about it and they said that I have one of the engines with the tolerance stack up that is just right. They said I will curse this engine every time I start it but will love the extra power.

I ended up using my 18V DeWalt drill set on high RPM and it turned the engine over with no problem other that the gears ion the drill make a lot of noise and it sounds like something is being destroyed.
I have now rewired my flight box with a switch to select 12 or 24 volts and with 24V to the Dynatron it starts anything.

As was mentioned above it is very important to not flood the engine with any of these high power start options or you will break the engine.

To prevent flooding the engine I have a fuel shutoff installed and use that to shut down the engine. I keep the fuel shut off closed at all times that the engine is not running. For starting, I connect the glow plug and get the engine spinning before I open the fuel.

As far as the landing gear goes, It does not matter which way they are on. It is more fore looks than anything. Mounted as you have them will give a slightly more stable base for landing by keeping the skids more centered under the CG.

I know about the using higher power thing did that with are planes we used to always use 18volts. I tryed 18 volts and it was basically the same.

Well I finally tryed a drill and it turns it over like the start does without the glow plug in lol . But I haven't started it up yet because of weather. I should have tryed that earlier but I tried and the hex starter adapter lockscrew stipped but I got it out and tryed it and wow. I will start it up with the drill and run some fuel threw it soon. But I can't fly it is snowing and sleeting lol. Plus I was going to let Jerry from local hobby shop test fly it first so I was not that worried about getting it started. But I will for sure start it soon and run some fuel threw it.

Well I got it started fine took a min but think that was my fault not used to fuel shut off etc lol. But I got a video of it running now link below:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=0vW0URuNiZU

I am not sure if its running rich or what I tryed to riching it up some but it sounds like it is cutting out. At first it wouldn't run without leaving the glow plug battery on it. Because if I took it off it would die. So I richened it up some and then it would run without it. But seems not to be running right watch video and listen to the engine and hear what I mean. I am not sure if that is normal or what. But to me think it might be rich or lean not sure that is why I made a video. But it might be normal now that I think about it think mine 30 sounds the same. But back plate got a tad hot after awhile not at first I could hold my finger there but not for along time because it would get hot and then burn or start to longer I had it there. Think a 90 isn't supposed to run hot on backplate I mean not hot really because I can hold it there awhile. Anway check out the video and see. Video is shorter then what I made it because it was huge and mp4 and so I tryed to convert and shrink and download a trial and it only made 30% of the video but shows some.

It is hard to tell from the vid.
I do not worry much about the idle since the heli does not spend much time there.
Till you fly it and get the top end and mid range set you can not set the idle up.
The engine can run a little hot at an extended idle because the fan is turning so slow that it is not blowing much air over the engine.

Listen, i'm running the same engine, pipe and fuel on my rapi 90. I was having the same problem that you are with starting it. You have to shut the fuel off to the carb right before you start it or it will flood. As soon as it starts up unpinch the fuel line. I'm also using the dynatron starter with a regular 12v battery with no problems.
