Heli Headcase, you have earned the title of "Fossil Finder Emeritus", wow. I'll bet we have to cut your leg off and count the rings just to see how old you are. Do you drive a Rambler, Gremlin or Hornet? Please don't wear the plaid shorts and white belt with the mutton chop sideburns when you come to IRCHA. We will have a sound system with 8-track cartridges.

Cricket & Cobra

Just noticed 9 listings on EBAY for GMP Cricket and Cobra stuff today.
Get those parts and resurrect somthing for this summer. Just like
the Big & Rich song, "Fly a cricket and save an Aurora".

It doesn't matter to me what we bring. I am going to talk to Millner and see with the support we have here, if we can get some time out front of IRCHA. I will point him over to this forum.

I do have a mission, preserve the oldies.

Er, no you don't. I'm younger than some think. You only need to ask, less painful that way

This is too spooky! I DID own/drive two different Ramblers between 1969 and '74! Went to Volvo for many years afterwords. Wanted a Gremlin in the middle of that time frame. Glad I didn't get one

Blue jeans for me, no belts, clean shaven. No problems. THX!

This is awesome!

Would love to see this happen!!

For simplicity's sake, we should simply have a rolling cutoff on what determines "vintage" status - maybe anyhting 20+ years old. I would also suggest for safety's sake and preservation of the models, that we need not use the vintage radio gear in our vintage helis! I am 100% spektrum all the way, even in the Cricket!

Does anyone know what happened to "Mr. Cricket", Erin Clancey? He is the one I was talking to in '99 about organizing a vintage gathering. I'm sure some of you knew about his web site, a central clearinghouse for anything Cricket. Where did he go?

Ok, Ok, I got it: V.R.C.H.S. Vintage Radio Control Helicopter Society? The planker guys have SIG's within the AMA for vintage aircraft and aerobatic routines based on the early, ground breaking designs that lead us to where that state of modeling is today. Why not do the same with GMP, Hirobo ect. and what type of contest flying they saw back in the day? You know, if you dared to do a loop, you won!..lol..well maybe not THAT far back. And even if its laid back and more fun-fly than vintage contest maneuvers, cool but there could be intrest in both. However I think the name should stick, but I'm bias of course

To give a better idea on the contest side to the non-planker guys. These Special Intrest Groups devide the aircraft up base on controlablity somewhat placing them in classes based on the era they were from. Two channel, three channel, four and full house with flaps and retracts, tuned pipes ect. Something like this can be done today with Heli-boys, Crickets and Cobras (Oh My!...sorry).Fixed pitch, sport with limited neg-pitch and Expert for a full pos/neg ranged heli? Bonus points for flying Rambo? Er..thats no gyro.

It really ticks me off to see an antique car tag on a 1980 car.

Vintage in helicopter terms should mean that the heli was originally sold as FIXED PITCH. Of course, you would have to exclude the little plastic electric heli's.

heli_headcase, you are the only person that I have ever seen land a Dubro. Do you remember that guy that used to machine his own heli's from scratch. There was a construction article in which he used a Bonner 4RS radio (smallest at the time).
