What, no Superior? Call me cruel but I'd drop the Scout and add a Superior - it's more in the class of Schluter heli's you're bringing. An SX-81 should be in there too

Please ignore me, I'm deep in the middle of restoring (for flight) a bunch of old heli's...

Hey I have a SX-81 that might make the trip. It probably won't be functional. But it will be there for display purpose. Anyways come to think of it,

color scheme kindof matches your Tutelar

Efficiency must be proportional to the number of teeth available to drive the tail Look close at the crown gear on the left. I was flying it that way and worked OK but those 30-something-year-old teeth were jumping off with every flight. 37T gear. The one on the right is the 41T gear bought off eBay but with the original hub of the 37T gear (needed the correct 1/16" shaft hole). Wasn't too tough a swap. I wouldn't go larger than 41T due to the extra drag from spinning the tail faster and possible clearance issues under the rim of the crown. Gettin' pretty close to the gearbox structure

Yeah, bring it if there's room. Looks very nice! Maybe I'll bring one next year. Need to find some of those fuel tank securing bands.

Can any of you guys give me any info about IRCHA since I've never been there? I've looked at the website and it's pretty non descript. I was specifically interested in info about motorhomes on site, what the best day to get there is, etc, etc?

Thanks
Randall

Who can say what will be at IRCHA? Keep your eyes open just in case...

Badger
They have camper / motor home sites ... not sure of the price but as I remember Chris had to pay a lot more last yr than they use to .. seems like it was over a 100.00 per night for his motor home ... I would think they would have that info on the website ....
Shoot they an email and I am sure they can tell you .
On the other side of the field they have shower facilities too.

Hope to see you there ,,, you'll be amazed and love it .

Another one coming to IRCHA...

Finished the refurb today, and did the initial test hover. Flies quite well - wood paddles and all!

(Tail fin to be added this week, after it gets painted)

Enjoy!

Need some expert advise!

Hello! I am a brand new memeber and I sure don't want to post something wrong on my first day so if this is wrong just delelte it. I fly foamie electric planes and a friend of mine ask me to sell a helicopter for him. He has a tire shop and mechanic service and someone gave him this heli and equipment I believe for tires and mechanical service. I know nothing about heli's so what I'm asking is help on how much this is worth so I can sell it. The Heli is very big (48" blade span and 42" from the tail boom to the nose and weighs 6 1/4 lbs.) It is a Hirobo ShuttleZ Helicopter. (Gas) I think .32 engine! at least one of the empty boxes says "Artikel Webra Speed .32 RC ABCD Heli mit TN-Vergaser"
Included is and Airtornics VG6H 6ch 72,83 mhz (52) Tx.
There is an empty box that says SG-X Gyro system by Airtronics that I assume is on the heli.
New blades in a box (wood with reinforcement rods) I believe they need fiberglassed.
New tail boom, Box full of screws and things, Inside tail pitch plate (new)
New tail blades, New main shaft, New timing belt, Glo-starter, ZS linkage set (new), Carburetor in a package, Metal clutch bell lining (new),
W-linkset new, there is a long rod with threads on both ends, floats for a heli, Box of parts, 12 V starter, Tail fins (new), Instruction manual for the heli, Mini Tune Pipe in a box new, Inside tail Drive Shaft (new), ZS Tail Unit Case new, More parts, Tx charger with flight battery charger, Lots of extras.
I would like to get a reasonable price so both the seller and the buyer would be blessed. If you would help I have 52 pictures of everything and if you will send me your email address I will send you the compressed photos. I'll post just a few. My email address is: carl@richhill.net.
I am a minister is Rich Hill MO and have been for the past 34 years so I am relying on your help with this. Your friend in Christ, Carl Covey (quailbird)

Too darn quiet here...

Guess I'll bring this thread up to the top with a little progress report from ATL.

Yesterday I was giving the rebuilt wood frame of my Du-Bro 300 a first coat of white Hobbypoxy to be followed by a second and then red. Working outside, I was being threatened by a thunderstorm moving in fast. The one coat done, I found that there were micro pin holes in the chin of the frame. There's a precast polyurethane foam block there that replaced the balsa blocks in the earlier models, required far less carving to get the rounded shape. Anyway, I found I could make the holes 'go away' by smearing the paint with my finger and adding some fresh from the spray gun. Bad move because now the paint is sagging (running) from over-application. To combat the running, I'll just pick up the frames (from the inside where its dry) and hold the thing at a level plane to give the paint time to settle down.

Bad move #2...

I pick the structure up from the stand (cardboard box) and proceed to lose my grip and start juggling it for a couple seconds. From 5ft up above a concrete patio, I just about tossed it in my effort to regain a grip without touching the paint. BANG! It hits and rolls once or twice on the concrete. You should have seen the look in my eyes, they were white hot! It took all my will power not to kick the frames across the yard (where's a "pissed" smilie when you need one?).

The damage? Banged-up corners, broken glue joint, ruined paint, wasted time prepping the wood. After hours spent fixing and sanding, I'll have to start all over again. To top it off, I seem to have lost the ability to use the 20+ years old epoxy paint I'm so fond of. There's this indication that it isn't curing properly, meaning the paint job would have been crap regardless. I'm at a loss for a substitute finish that I trust to be durable. Looks like this heli is not going to make IRCHA this year and it's sad because the Du-Bro 300 has a very special significance for me - my very first R/C heli. Not this particular one but it's the same otherwise. My first is still with me and rebuildable but not in stock form. I converted it to collective in 1989 and learned to fly it that way. I should get it flying again for next year.

I've had some simliar issues with old Hobbypoxy paint that I had also. I never could get it to thin out enough to spray properly so I switched over to single stage automotive paint with hardener added to it and have been really pleased with the results. I start out with a base coat of fill and sand primer followed by sanding with 600 grit wet dry paper and then apply the top coat. I hope that it is as fuel proof as the epoxy was.

Next Project....

Working feverishly on my Kavan Jet Ranger for IRCHA. Fortunately there's nothing to paint

I rebuilt the Supertigre G60 bluehead and tested it on 10% nitro Sunday. I believe it's good-to-go. The big part of the project is the new servo configuration and cleaning the rotorhead to remove most of the 'patina' generated from years of sitting.

Here's a shot of the custom silencer adapter I carved out and the engine on the test stand:

PS: Yes, that's a G60 Bluehead. I remember bead-blasting it clean for the last owner before he sold the Jet Ranger (containing this engine) to me 7 years ago. It's in great condition (now) except for the head color.

Man! This is cool!

I wish someone would come out with the "vintage" workings while being able to use the new technology to improve the breed. Just like how companies such as Horizon and tons of others have done old scale type of aircraft. I remember as a kid seeing Joe's hobby center commercials with the Schluter Cricket(the only way I found this out was to read this thread). I would love to have a re-engineered version, simply because I would be afraid of trying to find the parts and actually trying to fly one of these.

I am only 34, but has anyone posted this idea to any of the manufacturers? There are ton's of people into scale, but how about say "nostalgic" machines. I have a few Trex's and I flip flop also, but have begun going back to basics and smoothing out and just enjoying the flying and learning the machines. Something like any of the beautiful machines posted here I would buy in a kit form in a heartbeat if I thought I could sucessfully hover it and land it in one piece..

I can't wait for the event! I am and was already planning on going to IRCHA but to be honest, this has alot of my interest!

D

Man.... I had no idea what an addiction this was going to be.....
