Hi guys,

got some great news. compass are working on a 500 size electric heli.

specs are as follows

4s or 6s
approx 1m rotor span
9650 or similar CCPM servos
full size tail servo.
single stage tail belt drive
typical compass competitive pricing

this isnt the final design and will probably morph to some extent before release but you get the idea.

Swwet I like it. Just 1 favor Make it so you can use micro or std servos 500-550 blade with a direct connection to swash is hard on servo gears when you crash Am I am alway doing that hahha

That could work out very nicely, if I can use my 6s 3700 packs and motor from the Logo 10, put them on a slightly smaller heli so getting better performance but still big enough to give stability and presence in the air.

Ade, it would be better if the servos are arranged "vertically" so that they don't move/rock under stress.

Sound like this heli will be the same size as the Lepton, but I hope alot less expensive!

we are looking into various options for the servo layout including push/pull and supported outputshaft

its tricky to keep it compact with a nice high CG and get the control system right.

the Knetic (600 based on the 3d) should be out soon hoping to test fly as soon as the weather sorts itself out. few new bits for the 3d should be available soon and the 90 isnt far off of production.

dont worry im sure the 500 will be out before the auora :-)

Thanks Ade, I had thought about supported output shaft, probably simpler and lighter than push/pull and I think for this sized heli would be fine.

I like push/pull but on this sized heli I doubt you really need it.

Yes, and yes, and yes, it autos very well actually. It was a little touch and go at first but after the autohub seasoned in (about 8 flights) and I got the belt tension right (about the same number of flights) an auto is not a problem at all. I dont mean a quickly touch down scenario either. I bring it in and have enough energy left over to swing the tail around to do it backwards even, so I can keep the tail out of the grass/dirt as well.
