Dear Forum Users,

I am considering buying the excellent Hirobo 30-size Lama and converting it to EP. My question is, has anyone added "scale" detailing around the mechanics area of the model - the area occupied by the large fuel tank on the prototype? The Hirobo model has a cover with ventilation grills over this section of the chopper and I am not sure if this is prototypical or not. Is it possible to fit half-relief dummy fuel tanks over the mechanics and add the various frame struts seen on the prototype? Any advice or photos of such a conversion would be very helpful. If the Hirobo ventilation cover is replaced with the above details would this compromise the integrity/strength of the model? Many thanks in advance.

The ventilated panels are not structural except they support the scale struts to the landing gear and the oil tanks on top. It can be flown without the panels.

Here are some photos of the dummy fuel tanks and the Lama without the panels.

Oldlugger,

I also converted mine to electric and also changed the side panel to scale. I used carbon rods to do the framing and just use left over vacuum packaging for the fuel tank.Go check out my gallery. I have some close up photos there.
