| Scince I bought my Hornet I have been looking over all the stuff on the net about it. I noticed that a lot of folks that have crashed have had broken tailbooms. As I was building the latest member of my fleet. I thought the tailboom (while georgous) looked kind of fragile. I also didn't like the fit of it, mine was not straight and was loose in the frames and tail gearbox. Not to mention the fact that you have to be VERY careful about how much you tighten the grub screws.
I searched around and found a replacement that will cost you $5-$10 and about 2-3 grams extra weight and I garrentee you will never break it. Go to your local Archery shop and pick up a 1/4" CF arrow shaft. You will need to drill out the tail gear box and frames to 19/64ths (I think that was the size) and put two rounds of Scotch tape on the outside of your bearings to take up the slight difference in diameter.
Now your tailboom will fit tight enough in the frames and tailgearbox that you shouldn't even need the grub screws. I put mine in for safety but I don't suspect they would be needed. It is also ABSOLUTELY straight and consistant in diameter.
If you break that, you will have a lot of other trouble than just a broken tailboom.
Cheers,
Malorie
