PS. Sorry for being so happy, just love my Wren!

Hi All.

I wonder why they state 7% Oil.

is this a jakodofsky engine thing, or are we all supposed to be running with a similar amount in Turbines.

The Jakadofsky manual states 20:1 while the starwood site says 15:1 so I guess we need to find out where the error is. I tend to side on what the Jakadofsky manual says since they made the engine and perform the service on it.

Can't believe it's all so vague.

It's not vague exactly, its printed right in the manual. But I called Starwood and they said originally Jak said 15:1 and within the last year or so started using 20:1 so you can run anywhere in-between. Starwood went with the most conservative.

What I meant was, vague amounst users of that engine, some people were quoting 7%, that's way different to 15 or 20%.

All the best.

Are you confusing ratios with percent? 20:1 ratio is 5%. Does any turbine need 20% oil mixed into the fuel? That's the same as glow fuel oil ratios.

yeah, your right actually. There's so many figures flying about here!! Still there is quite a variation 2.5% to 7%.
All the best,

I get it from the airport. BP2380. I don't know about different brands. I just asked for turbine oil. The airport gave me this stuff. I double-checked it with starwood and they said it was fine.

If you want something that will show the fuel level better, Mobil 254 is a dark turbine oil when compared to most brands. It will cost a bit more though.

SkeeterPilot: JetCat doesn't recommand the use of the Castrol TTS (page 6 of the operating manual), for is might not mix well with the kerosene!

i use Mobil JETOIL, i put in 20ltrs of Parasene into a 25 litre jerry can, and then pour in my 1 quart can of oil. and give it a damn good shake...

I have had no problems using this, the problem i did have was when i used a synthetic oil and not a dedicated turbine oil....

I am sure there is some who would debate it, but i learnt my lesson and stick to a dedicated jet oil, JETCAT recommend Aero shell or BP Jetoil, i use Mobil as motors and rotors sell it..

I bought my Mother-in-law a chair for xmas, but she wouldn't plug it in

Sorry to desagree...

5% oil content is 5 litres oil for 100 litres of the mix. (5L oil to 95 litres Jet A1).

For 5%, mix 1 litre oil with 19 litres Jet A1.

If you add 1L oil to 20L fuel you'll get a 4,76% mix. I know it works too, but I was just being rigorous

Key factor is using the correct oil.

Then you had better take into consideration that turbine oil is sold by the US Quart and is less than 1 liter

lololl

If you use an US quart for 20 litres Jet A1 you'l get a 4,5% mix...

But that works too ...

Jetcat's ratio

is 5 percent...but putting 1 liter to 20l of fuel is not...

5 percent would be 1 liter of oil in 19 liters of fuel.

Not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted.

But this is why I always pour in 1L of Turbine oil in my Jerry can, and then take that to the airport to be filled.

This way I'm getting the correct mix ratio, and it is then mixed together when they fill the can.
