e-Electric Conversions > Here's my converted Raptor 50 on A123s

RS2KHeliman - Location: Wichita, KS -
Raptor 50 with TPpacks ccpm.
Hacker A50 12S
CC Phoenix 85 HV
3 Futaba 9252s
1 GY401 / 9251
Medusa HV BEC
2 10S1P A123s in native configuration.

With my 9.5:1 gearing I can only get 1850-1800 RPMs but I'm currently getting 12 minutes of sport flying or 8 minutes of ugly tick-tocs, flips, and full power climbs. Power is better than my old Raptor 50 V1 with an OS 50.

I am currently having some trouble getting the CCPM setup to work correctly, but once I solve that the next step is to replace the A50 with a Z50 and get my headspeed up to 2100 - 2200 RPMs

Here is my first electric helicopter in all her zip tied glory:

Here is a video I took, please excuse the poor quality. I plan to have better ones in the future.

I am going to use spiral wrap and something other than zipties to hold the batteries after I solve my CCPM problem. The trim changes depending on collective stick input. I think I need to get new servos and put my 9252s into an airplane or a mechanical helicopter.

that video left me hanging...LOL

heli pops into action...video over...i was like...whaaat?

looking good.

indeed a loose battery will do more damage in a crash...perhaps foam to fill gaps and cushion some?...just thinking.

Sorry about that. I was doing more, but the camera operator did not zoom in so all you would have seen was a spot that sounds like a helicopter doing flips.

That footage was taken 7 minutes into the flight. The A123s really do hold up well. I will be able to take a better video next week from the beginning of the flight.

I'm REALLY looking forward to the next generation of A123s!

What next generation of A123s are you referring too?

The only thing I've seen on their agenga is maybe a 4500MAH cell for EV applications.

Do you know of something else?

I'd sure like something in the 3 to 4000 MAH range. 2P setups are a PITA.

I read about a higher capacity cell for the DeWalt packs. I will look for the site that was listing the information.

Is that hacker motor the latest version with a small bearing in the top or the older large bearing? Reason i ask i have blown out 2 of the older hacker A50's due to the top bearing going out. Heli will start to pull 40-60amps in hover and burnout bats. The motor temps will also start to be in the 180+ range when motor bearing goes out.

Heli should pull about 25-30amps in hover on 10-12S.

- Doug

Cra$h’n with a Heli good time!
