can you use a HPI Nitro Star 15FE Engine in the new Q15 Heli?

I wouldn't. While a decent-enough entry level buggy engine, the Nitro Star is just that; an entry level car/truck engine. I've been running one in a Nitro Rush for almost two years now. I did install a better heat-sink head, but otherwise the engine still has all the original parts and runs fine. And all on that dastardly airplane fuel; the local hard-core car guys STILL tell me I'm going to ruin it because I'm not using "car" fuel. Pardon me while I yawn...

However, it has a one-needle carburetor, which should make tuning the mid-range (supremely important in a helicopter) interesting, to say the least...

I am curious as to just what IS a good engine for this little bird. But for sure, you want an engine that you can adjust the low-end mixture on. That means a two-needle carb at least.

What about the OS 15 engine that they used for the concept 10....was similar to their buggy engines except it came with a heli head

Steve.

In my crusing around the web, I thought I saw that MVVS makes a 15 sized heli engine? Have you heard of this?

Also, there is a Toki(sp?) 18 that is made in Japan?

I was talking to the guys from Model Engine Company and they sell a K&B 18 which they said they will put the car heat sink on it for me if I want them to.

Yep! Jim is correct. I bou;ght the K&B 18 car motor with pull start and had the carborator swaped for the airplane version. I am yet waiting for the Q15 to be shiped from HHI.

Sorry, Jim; I don't have a clue. I've been neck-deep in planks lately, and find myself slipping farther and farther out of the heli loop.

Personally, I would never buy ANY K&B engine. But I don't drink wine for the same reason; a bad experience with it in my distant youth...

I've heard enough mixed reports on MVVS engines to be hesitant about them, as well.

If I were getting ready to power a Q15, I'd be looking at the new OS .15 plank combat engine that has been converted from a buggy mill. I would find out the details on the carburetor, and if it wasn't 'up to snuff' for heli use would explore alternative carbs.

I wonder if the OS baby four stroke (.26 or the new .30) would fit in there? You would need some new gearing for sure, and probably a larger fan shroud. But wouldn't that be a trick little ship???
