HIROBO Freya - Sceadu - Shuttle > Sceadu 50 issues need resolving before I buy

I think I have narrowed my choice for the next heli to a Sceadu 50.

However......

I have been hearing things like the engine overheats, the third bearing block is needed, the main gear strips or looses teeth, ball links pop off and the furnished blades are too small (it prefers 600mm to 570mm).

I've checked the various websites with Sceadu 50 info but I don't know how up to date they are. My question is if I get a Sceadu 50 in the next month from Heliproz or Rick's (or any other reputable dealer) will it require additional parts from Altech and if so how do I go about getting them?

Those of you in the know are encouraged to reply

TIA,

Jeff

The new/extra parts will come with the machine OR in the form of a voucher that you send to Altech and then they send you the parts when they get them in.

The new parts that come with it solve the tooth loss problems.

The Sceadu is best with 600mm blades.

Overheating....maybe, I have been flying with a home made shroud and it works fine.

I have no regrets, I love flying this machine!

Ditto...

Ditto to what Volkul said. Except I haven't experienced and overheating problem with mine. The guys I fly with haven't either. I am running 15% CP and a muffler. They are running 30%CP with the muscle pipes and various other "hot" exhausts.

The 570mm are probably not shipped with any new Sceadu 50, but better ask before you buy. They either include a brochure for free DTDS and 3rd bearing block or they include the actual pieces.
If they come with the 570mm blades, try selling them and you can get the upgrade parts from Altech for $46 including shipping.

Since the 570mm blades are probably not included with the heli, bad blades are a non-issue any more. Just pick a decent set of 600mm blades and you're good to go!

I have not had any overheating issues with my Sceadu 50 and it is leaned out plenty, pulling 11 degrees on 600mm blades.

No ball links are popping either on my heli I don't know where you have heard that one.

What about the mixing & wash-out arms being brittle?

Greg,

I heard about the ball links popping off in one of the forum threads here on RR.

The washout/mixer arms won't break unless you do something to cause it, but they will break in tip overs or a slip with the ball link plyers.
Overall I've seen two sceadu 30's that had.... uuhhh... non controlled adjustments (one flameout, one tipover) and both broke A (one) mixing arm. Both only needed blades, mainshaft, flybar (on one), and feathering shaft to be ready to fly again.
less then $60.

I mentioned a much-looser-than-you'd-expect ball on the elevator linkage, which was replaced (FOC) before I risked the first flight.

You're supposed to use a starter shaft with one-way bearing; I don't have one and (just once so far) I've managed to knock the same link off when the shaft disengaged from the adapter. I think someone else mentioned this too.

No probs here with overheating*, blades, flutter or tooth decay. But the bottom bearing sounds like good insurance so I've ordered one.
