I wanted something to build and fly indoors over the winter so acquired a H2 plus upgrades from a well known auction site.
This is my first micro elec and some bits are new to me,mainly motor and cell options. It has a HIMAX 4100 kv motor(all parts are unused)
At the moment i am needing advice on the build. the kit is unbuilt and i wondered if there is any thing i need to do from the onset.I have read post post for ideas, some going back considerably and may not be nessessary now.
With the kit were upgrades which i do not know whether to use yet or just build as standard.
Bits are micro heli swash, tailcase and tail grips and a metal frame system to mount the servos in a better ccpm position i thimk?made by duzi i think.
Any advice on things to do from start and avoid would be cool.

You will have a blast with your Hornet

Here is link with excellent pictures on its construction. Also, check the "Setup" section for motor, ESC, & servo installation: http://66.116.162.157/hornetX3D_build_index.php

Also, Eric Larson has a Hornet page with valuable information: http://www.ericlarsonrc.com/Heli/Eq...ornetII2005.htm

And last, but not least, Dark Horse has a great deal of Hornet info on his page: http://dhrc.rchomepage.com/MSHornet/tips.htm

Enjoy,

A nice thing about the H2 is the stock battery position is neutral right under the mast so you can get away with any weight of battery - I recommend 11.1V ThunderPower Prolite packs either 910mah or 1320mah
http://thunderpowerrc.com/html/prolites.html

For the 4100kv motor you'll want to use about a 12 or 13 tooth pinion for about 2700-3000rpm head speed

The mH components are OK - I liked the geomtry the tail box gives better than the stock but you might find it a bit finicky and fragile (bending & alignment issues) - I'd about recommend the stock Maxir tail over the mH tail - Should give good geometry with a solid plastic gear box (been meaning to try it myself but haven't yet)

Duzi components on the other hand are top notch although while the CCPM servo mounts do remedy a rigidity issue they don't give the best geometry making setup a bit more hassle-some but doesn't seem to cause much noticeable interaction in flight so they're optional upon preference

The links Flying Cat gave are great and what I used to start with myself - Do use all of them - Eric Larson gives H2 build in one and X3D build and radio setup etc in the other - And DarkHorse's info is just plain vast

Thanks for the links guys, that will keep me busy for a while.
One more quick question. The H2 came with a nice ste of carbon blades which i do not want to use at present indoors. What are my options on blades for this thing.Do only MS blades fit/work.Would like a set of light woodies etc just till i get used to the thing.

Joe Ginski sells 255mm woodies for Hornets for $19.95 or some deal

http://www.mscomposit-usa.com/shopo...bladeFinder.php
(MCP1255)

I've never used woodies on my Hornet (usually 255mm Vs or KoKs)
So I don't know how they perform
