Hey King owners, I just put on a EK5-0006 esky brushless outrunner and the esky 25 amp ESC and put the lil heli thru it paces big time, serious abuse and to my suprise the motor and esc were barely warm. The batteries were also just a little warm. I was previously running an HDX 450 outrunner and it had power but got pretty hot and also made my batteries very hot. Highly Recomended !!!!!!

yes those little violet brushless are nice!
I also have the 3800KV at hand, but it's a little heavier than the 3100 I am using right now, plus everything is just fine like this

VT "absolutly lovely stuff"

Did you have to mod your motor mount to get the EK5-0006 Motor
to fit..

Ever so slighty Carl, my good fellow, I use a dremel with an 1/8th inch spiral cutter and hog out the center and side holes just a smidgeon and also just a little of the raised side frames of the motor mounting plate !!

i shaved slowly about the same places on my HDX300 But I used a XACTO knife with a new blade. Did this mainly to use outer screw holes on motor to handle torque better. And run the motor wires out the back.

Thats a good point about the outer holes. I always went for the outer holes without even thinking to much about it but I think you are right about it being able to handle more tourque, it stands to reason.

The motors on hbkings seem to run very hot. Changing the motor is the way to go. They sell a motor/plate mount for the motor. I myself dremeled the hole out some, and found out they had a plate to bolt right on with no dremel needed. Jimmi

When switching out the RTF stock motor for a brushless, say the [EK5-0006] is it necessary to change out the Speed Controller or any other electronics? Or does it slide right in?

I think I toasted by original motor after about 25 batteries of hovering and learning. Only lost 1 set of main blades.

Thanks in advance to any answers.

Yeah, can't ever do a Brushless motor without the brushless ESC(speed controller).
Instead of the Esky combo I got the HDX300 motor and picked the 30A Dynam(i think) ESC. It was only $45 for both I think, from HeliDirect dot com.
Then the pinion makes a difference for headspeed and bogging the motor, Helidirect pairs the 8t pinion with that motor I got.
Cheers!

Going broke and OK with it.

Ill tell you right now chewy the 8t is weak. I am flying the 300hdx3800rpm with ELE30ampESC. I tried the 8 the heli is underpowered Its very stable but not enough headspeed to get cyclic control going. youll get a gust of wind and the ups and downs will beat you up like a FP heli if you know what I mean. Youll be using more pitch to get the lift and it will fly like a kite. I went to 10 which may be a bit much for the plastic head I would go for a 9 if I was you. something in between. After flying a blade cp pro It felt like it had no cyclic control at all on an 8t.

That is definitely good info to know, I will probably start with the 9t when I shift over to the BL setup.
