I just recently foun a place local to buy amsoil and was wondering what mix most of you are running I was told to run 100 to one this seens to high I would think 50 to 1 would be more realistic. I will be using this oil in my benzin and my x-cell gasser and also my new benzine in a Big Airwolf that is on the big brown truck headed my way at this time, any sugestions would be helpful

Use 2 ounces of the 100:1 AmsOil per gallon of gas. I use the Ozark (Coleman) fuel. Try it, you'll love it!

Everyone is running 2 ounces of the 100:1 in the RC230.....Thats 64:1, not much difference...The G23 in the Xcell will like 1.5 ounces if you run the stock carb....You put the 603 carb on the g23 puh, it will run 64:1 a lot better..

Bill

Bill, that just shows you taught us well . As a disciple of the God of Gassers (you), it is our duty to preach your words and get others to follow!

Amsoil

OK,

2oz it is. I do however want to know how you came to that number? I too just picked up my 100:1 Amsoil yesterday and they insist a ratio at 100:1 (not that they know what they are talking about).

Also, as I have a new engine, do I start with 2oz straight away or is there a higher ratio for engine break-in.

Thanks guys...

How did I come up with this number?.......Well, I knew folks would be concern about the low oil content, so I desided that I would see how much I could run, and still maintain good needle settings....With the newer engines, it was easy...They allow more air for better atomization, and better combustion...So I guess to answer your question, Trial & error...
On the Old puh types with the old carb, I found that 85:1 was better for the old carb...With the new carb, it allowed more oil, to make the engine run good..It would still run even better with 85:1, but that wasn't my intentions...
The older G2D was the same way...It wanted nothing but 85:1..I had run it up to 100:1, but its hard to measure 1.28 ounces. 1.5 is much easier. there is not much difference...I run the new carb now on the old G2D, and run 2 ounces with the camper fuel...

On breakin, I personally breakin on the amount I'm going to run, but some folks want more...Its really not nessasary to run more so long as you keep the needles rich...
If you want to run 50:1 for the first half gallon, thats fine, but after that, cut it back....This is a very good oil, and it will take a little longer to breakin using it, but you will have a finer finish on the cylinder wall when your done...
I first let the engine idle for at least 8 ounces of fuel..Then on the next tank, I adjust the curves to allow hover rpm without putting load on the engine...I'll move the stick changing from hover rpm to idle ever so often...Whats important here is to keep the temp changing, not constant..I'll do this for the whole tank....Then with the next tank, I will bring it up to hover long enough to make sure everthing is reasonably smooth, and do slow forward flight, while not hovering for long periods. Better yet, I'll do nothing but autos..Around the 3 or 4 gallons, I start doing light aerobatics, and letting the engine run wide open for longer periods , if its not a scale ship, hehee.. Pretty well after that, you can do what you want..The ring will seat between 6 to 9 gallons
These engines are tuff as nails. I have let her rip tatorchip after two gallons, but I tend to baby them for the most part
One more thing, when you are trying to smooth out the machine, and you have placed the needles correctly, sometimes you need to change the load, and rpms to find a sweetspot...Shouldn't take much...This is the reason I put minimum 5 degs to make sure the load is there in most applications...Running the big 800 mm blades, according to the rpm your running, have enough profile drag on the blades to make it easier to adjust...
Dave, if your running the stock setup, remember to not over speed the rotor...Get a Gov, or limit your high throttle setting...
Regards,
Bill

I have been using Amsoil 100:1 in G23 and G230s for two years without a single problem. The models include: 4 benzine trainers, 2 hughes 300 benzines, large carbon Airwolf and a large scale R22.
The mix I have always used is 90:1, even running in. I springe 56ml of oil into a petrol container and add 5litres of unleaded petrol, sorry about the measurements but the UK is part of Europe - unfortunately!!!

Why buy 100:1 if you intend to mix 50:1

Dave

Where do you buy your Amsoil?

I am thinking of buying a Benzin trainer from John White (UK), does he sell it?

P.S. Like the R22 paint job

Hi John

You get the oil from:

Performance Oils
Lydiate Lane
Lynton
North Devon
EX35 6AJ

01598 7527822

It's about £14 a qtr (same price as a synthetic motor cycle oil)

If you get a Benzine make sure you get a G230 motor - Bl**dy awesome
I have a robbe 2200 govenor on mine, turbine smooth all the way from 1000-1700 head speed. Very 3Dable at 1700 Where do you live?

My Hughes 500 turbine is going for painting on Sunday - not sure on the colour scheme

Dave

Thanks for the great info.

I live up in the NW of England. Preston area.

About 1/2 hour drive from John White's

Went to Johns a couple of days ago and had a look at a Benzin Trainer.
Never seen a helicopter with a petrol engine fly before, so don't know what to expect. From what I have read about the Vario version, it is very good.

If I buy one I plan to fly it as a trainer for 12 months, then buy a fuselage for it. Thinking of the "ALOUETTE II"

Cheers

So I can't guarantee I can get there However I will do my very best.

I would not like to put you to any trouble if I end up not getting there.

I will get to john's for about 9 and leave about 2. Got to pick up a Benzine camera ship

Flying the heli would have to be after about 10.30 - 11 because of the neighbours!!

The_Dave and Dave Hollins. The question about the 100:1 reference comes up often. The product that we prefer to run is Amsoil 100:1. However, we don't run it at the 100:1 mixture, but at 60, 70 and 80:1. An oil that is intended for 50:1 use, should not be run any leaner than 50:1. The 100:1 reference with Amsoil is a testament to this oils lubricating qualities.
