I am flying a Rappy 30 right now and i wonder if it is really worth to put on NHP tailblades instead of the stock one.
Is the tail more "locked" ?

If i buy the NHP's should the 85mm ones be a good choice?

Thanks,
Raptor30.

u won't believe it!

try the NHP they are awesome. they are c/f, thick airfoil shape. the foam cores need to be epoxied at the tips to keep the grass from chewing them up.

If you do lots of backwards flying you will notice a little more crisp tail rotor with less tendency to blow out. In hover they will be more efficient so you will have to tune down your gyro gain a little bit. Very nice upgrades, but IMO not necessary unless you are really pushing the tail through manuevers and the blades are flexing too much and just giving up.

Most CF blades have wider chords. So which is better, longer or wider blades?

Additional to what Paul said, if you're doing any piroueting maneuver that loads the engine you will need to make sure that the piro rate stays constant or it will be much more difficult to perform the maneuver because you'll lose "sync".

For instance in piro flips you load the engine by the combination of the cyclic (aileron & elevator) and the collective (pitch) so everytime you apply collective to prevent the heli from losing altitude while you're right side up or inverted you will notice a load on the engine. At this point the torque that the tail has to neutralize increases tremendously and if the tail blades are too small you will see the piro rate increase when you're piroueting left or decrease if right.

Having large blades will make sure that the tail has enough "authority" to prevent the torque from taking over the piro rate.

I found a big improvement in my gyro performance when I switched to the NHP tail blades. Keep in mind they might cause higher loads so you might want to switch to the one piece tail hub. I've never had the stock tail hub bolts snap, but after reading that others had, I figured it was not worth the risk since the one piece hubs are so cheap.
