Align T-REX 600N 700N > 600N metal head upgrades?

After watching JK fly at Snohomish this year I strongly reconsidered putting a lot of time and money into my 600N Pro head, I mean if the 600N can perform like JK flew it at Snohomish with nothing more then Metal SF mixing arms I have to ask myself what else is needed to really make the head better? I decided to make the mods that only JK made, who would know better then the designer of the 600N. So I went with the metal SF mixing arms as JK did however I did install metal blade grips for self piece of mind. What I believe needs the most work is my 3D capabilities and flying skills, now that is time well spent. When you men did the upgrades to make your head a full metal head what was your personal expectations and hopes? and what differences have you noticed compared to stock? has the mods improved your personal skills in any way or are the mods for the bling factor. I am not trying to insult anyone here, I am just curious. Believe me probably 99.9 percent of you guy's out there are a better 3D pilot then I am, but I am working on it....Jim

I put the metal grips for peace of mind and the flybar seesaw because a close friend who has a 600E commented that he had some play in his stock one. After that was done why not replace the mixing arms too and be over with it?

Ok, bling factor had alot to do with it too

All those metal upgrades are nice but you are only adding weight to the heli. The only one I think everybody should do is the metal grips.

If you add all the metal upgrades available from Align and G-force etc. The thing would be a tank.

I think only the metal fan is needed and this is because the plastic one throughs the governor magnets.

Don't judge how these pilots fly and what upgrades they have. Has nothing to do with the upgrades. It's only their thumbs. Have you ever seen how JK was performing with a stock Raptor 50? Or what AZ was doing with a stock Raptor 30?

So don't fool yourself that the upgrades JK has in his helicopter will make you a better pilot. You can have the absolute best helicopter and yet not been able to do 1/10th of what a top pilot can do. The only thing you need is practice.

JK doesnt use an upgade unless it helps,I know a factory Align pilot that uses the metal grips, because he gets more collective and cyclic response and he can tighten the blades for blade stop autos. The plastic blade grips will crack if you try to tighten them enought to do the BS auto's.

Jason had metal grips at IRCHA.

I put all the "option" parts on mine when I built it(total came to about 150$ extra, not bad). Am I, or 95% of all on here, going to notice the FEW extra ozs from this? Nope not yet any way, not at my skill level. I just like the metal parts, they look cool. Its my heli, my money and my hobby. You cant go on what other people use, or their settings for the most part, everyone will fly different too. Some will have great control, while others are just OK even with the same setups.

Fly what you like, in the end it should make you happy. Dont worry what everyone else is doing or how fast you are progressing. Sure its good to get help-pointers from others, but dont think just because this guy has this and that, it will make you fly better.

Like some one said in another post.... high performance comes at a price. If you want it bare and light it may not be quite as durable. I recall my CDE Trex450... plastic parts in pieces all over after crashes. OnCe I went to more metal, crashes were much cheaper.

Pros want the lightest possible configuration. Many have one or two spare ships ready to go.

Us regular guys like to have fun with the bling.

I too upgraded to 100% metal head parts when I bought the my 600N kit. I was sold on the 450 V2's metal head and decided to do the same. Yes, it was about $100 for all the upgrades, but I wanted to have the peace of mind knowing there aren't any plastic parts flexing and potentially stress fracturing, and ultimately breaking. The extra weight is fairly insignificant compared to the power you have with either the OS 50 Hyper or the YS 50. It really is a matter of preference.

However, a friend of mine was/is flying plastic blade grips on his Synergy, and after an unfortunate crash full speed and nose first in the ground after a 100' dive, the plastic blade grips survived! I became more of a believer in plastic parts at that time.

Talking with Nigel Brown about plastic vs. metal, he preferred plastic blade grips on his Synergy as well, but on his Trex 600 electric he preferred metal blade grips due to having "more pop" in the collective.

It's all good to try and compare the parts on your personal heli.

in my opinion....JK's heli flew the way it did because JK was flying it. hand him any old piece of crap and they will sell it like hot cakes. heck...some of the top pilots manage to some how make JR gyro's look good!!

how many of us can actually fly like a master? or are you guys just like me and beat the sticks around trying to pretend im a master?

i wont add any upgrades to any of my heli's unless i can justify it. if the cost is reasonable, and if im confident enough to think i need or can use the upgrades.

Example. im told if i buy metal grips for my predator, it will be much more crisp and responsive. but....at $110 vs $10 for the plastic ones....i think i'll stick with plastic. plus im happy with the plastic ones anyways. so i cant justify the upgrade.
