UAV Autonomous Unmanned Aerial Vehicles > Flying my heli to do line transect surveys

In my line of work we usually use a real full size helicopter to fly along a line transect this is a predetermined course along a GPS positioned route to to count Orang Utan nests in Borneo. I recently read of an autopilot system used on model airplanes that could be programmed to fly along a predetermined course following GPS locations and then fly back to the launch point. Does anyone have any knowledge of this system and could it be used on a helicopter if say fitted with the Spartan AP2000i and the FMA sensor as the copilot system. If anyone has any info on how to do this and what we need I would like to hear about it because we are seriously looking into flying my 90 class heli to do this same kind of survey flying a video camera along a predetermined route.
Hope someone has some answers.
