Gohbee Aviation Stinger 30-90 > Alignment of flybar paddles

Hi guys

Just upgraded to the 15g cf paddles from the stock paddles. I must say, they look sweet. Now, i am wondering how you assure they are aligned correctley. I just eye-balled it. Is this what you guys do? They look sweet but i am a little worried that my cyclic will be insanley responsive. What kind of expo should i be running. Also, do you think it is necesary to use lock tite.

I am REALLY hoping to fly this weekend but that depends on my radio coming back from service

I use a pair of paddle alignment gauges..they just make sure both paddles are on the same plain...got them at heliproz...I use about 30% expo but that is just me with stock paddles....I guess you could say expo to your own tastes. I would at least loctite...the set screws on the paddles.

I think i got them to be pretty darn close. I also loctited the set screws.

Unless you have a really good eye for alignment the plastic alignment gauges are cheap and easy to use.
Do not loctite the paddles to the flybar, it is necessary to loctite the setscrews.
Expo is a matter of personal taste and your flying style.
If in doubt, start with about 30% and tune to your liking.

Definitely start with 30% w/ the Gohbee CF's, they are very responsive.

I got another question everyone. What pitch range are we expected to get from this heli. I seems like (according to the pitch gauge) i am getting more than 13 on the negative side and 9 on the posotive. I noticing really poor punch out and it honestly doesn't sound like bogging.

I think kind of an avg starting place would be something like +-10.
and up from there...

Just curious....are you some kinda crazy inverted flight guy?...
with +9 and -13 you would have wild inverted punch outs !!!

you're right...at +9 nine you're probably not bogging...
I would first check you're mechanical setup ....mid stick 0 deg pitch.
radio with default setup ..check pitch and adjust radio to fine tune...
more or less.

Ha, not quite just yet. I wish i could.

My pitch gauge is kind of hard to read. Some cheap helimax one. I spent some time yesterday and took several readings and found that i wasn't getting the 11 i thaught i had. It really looks like 9.

Just got back from flying today. With the hard dampers and 15g flybars, the head really comes to life. I did loose some stablility however, wich i expected. I am still not getting the pop i see with other stinger vids but it is hot here and the engine has to be run slightly richer than normal. The first time i took it out with the on-edge dampers i was having some bad vibs in the mid stick. I wasn't sure what that was. I read on the forums that you are supposed to grease the spindle, wich i hadn't done. No vibs in the mid stick after greased. Yesterday, it apeared i was having bad vibs in the tail. Fin was moving all over the place. So i took the tail apart and balanced it on my TF prop balace. Tail was perfectley balanced. I then proceded to the clutch fan wich was way off with the magnet. I had to drill away material on the magent side and add weight on the other. Went today and the canopy and the tail are still shacking. Now, the canopy was only shacking on the "window" part. More screws i think should fix that. The tailfin however just doesn't want to stop shaking. I am getting the feeling that it is just a flimsy part. The head and tail doesn't apear to be vibrating. Jut the tail fin. I noticed that the landing gear had little to no vibes wich tells me that the rest of the heli isn't shacking much. Anyway, got her into some nice FFF flight and did some more airobatics. My 2nd-10th loop were done today. Even an UGLY tic-toc. Lots of fun

Somethings still out of balance. What blades? BTW guys just spent the weekend with Dave (Gohbee), Jody (Miny me), and Clint (FlightPower). We got some great things instore here at Gohbee. Got a chance to rock the Phazor 600, and you electic guys are gonna love it!!! It was incredible, responsive, very nimble , stopped on a dime, tracked very predictably in ff or backward. I was flying Jodys which had the 13g Gohbee paddles and the head was insane with very little cyclic bog. Also using the new Gohbee blades. Auto hang is also, incredible. For those nitro folks are gonna be able to easily convert with plug n play head boom swaps,if they want. Nitro huffers like myself , the eccpm REALLY stabilizes the head and makes it come to life, sooooooo the nitro version, well, I cant friggin' wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh DAVE !!

Okay, did a few tests today. First, i switched out the flimsy tail in with the stiffer one from my late century hawk pro. Next, i removed the blades and did a short spool up. There was NO visible vibs on the spool up. NO shakes in the tail. Okay, so i put the main blades back on and did another spool up. Tail looks alot better with almost no shacking but i am still having a chicken dance on spool up. I put the blades on my digital scale and both are 137. Would less than 1g make a big difference? What else could be the problem?

Blade grips are too tight, sounds like it. Try loosening, spool up , then snug a little if you want to.

Oh, are you flying off grass or concrete/asphalt. You can get resonation on hard surfaces that dont show up on grass.

Hard packed dirt actually, but it is just as hard as concrete.

The vibs aren't bad at all once the heli is fully spool up. I am having alot of fun. Did some more loops, some cuban 8's, and am actually doing some inverted hovering (up high ofcourse). I am very surprised how much easier it is to hover inverted than i thaught. The left/right cyclic control don't change yet the for/aft do. This is just like a plane and i am very used to flying my kat 70 inverted. Cyclic is really fast when i crank the stick. Basically am just tumbling the heli around. REALLY fun.

blade align

After the first post of +9 and - 13 I'm not sure where to start. The mechanical setup is not done correctly. You need the same amount on each side. Change your master blade linkage [long link] until you get 11 and 11. You should then have 0 in the center...or close. Make sure you're in throttle hold with the pitch curve set linear from 1 to 100. Then match the other blade long link for exact length. Final tracking is done with the short link. Dont touch the master after it is set up. Always adjust the other blade .

Shaking on spool up is almost always blade tracking???? Are they tracking? Second place to look is the flaybar. This is one of the most important and most overlooked areas.

just my $.02

Hi tracvision

I am now running +11 and -11. The blades are dead on. Maybe i should be looking at the flybar. What exactly am i checking for on the flybar.

Thanks

Blades always 'chicken dance' on spool up.
If it is exessive I agree with WJackson, your grips
are to tight.
