I've seen a post of two, maybe your's, about broken ends. I suppose they're breaking because of vibration. The picture is of a really simple, light weight way to bridge the boom supports. This idea was a big hit in another part of RR. One of my friends did this and it worked out great. It's just a tube with a zip tie running through it. You can buy boom support bridges but this works just a well.

This is from RR member yug's gallery

Strange you should mention this, took the heli out twice now and had problems on both occasions.
First the metal sheared off on one of the supports after about half a dozen flights - the heli did not touch the ground once!

So I try to order a direct replacement part unfortunately it looks like you can`t order the supports that come with the 600N - you have to order the 600E support instead.
The 600N supports are pinned each end,the 600E parts come with the ends loose and you have to glue the ends on - so thats what I did.

I had about four flights yesterday and have just inspected the heli to find that both of the supports have worked there way loose from the metal end parts chassis end. These were securely glued in and I now find them eased out so there is about 2mm still in the ends - another flight and they both would have failed.

So I now need to glue them back in again for flying tommorow and hope that they hold - somehow I think that they won`t - either they will come out again or the metal fitting will shear off like the first time the heli went out.

Definitely a vibration issue and I`m using a YS engine as well

Another little problem for Align I think

If not engine maybe the vibration is a fan or hub out of balance. As of today I have 72 flights on this heli with my rough running diesel of an OS engine (ya whatever) and haven't had any cracking or structural failures. By the way I bought the boom supports recently for a crash kit I'm collecting for and the ends were installed and pinned just like the ones that came with my 600N. I was thinking about installing a bridge after reading the first post. Turns out the skid pipe for a 450 is the perfect diameter to match the boom supports. I think I'll install it as a preventative measure.

I right pain in the butt I think!!
I`m going to check out the design on some of the other heli manufacturers to try to get other ideas.
Inkspot, you run a YS as well don`t you? Just wondering if it happens with both the Hyper and YS.

Sorry Kingair you`re too fast to post the answer I just asked

Have you got a part number for the `pinned` support ,I can`t even find it on the Align site - maybe they are just in the middle of upgrading to the 600N type and I got an old batch.

I notice that its only those that run the ally boom clamp that are having the breakages. I would assume its due to the tight fit between the ally boom support ends and the ally boom clamp having no give in them and the vibration is causing the issue.

Is there no way you can put a fibre washer between the clamp and boom support ends to give a bit of dampenning between the two, just a thought.

I am still using the plastic boom clamp and this seems to absorb the vibration.

Kingair, looking at that Align photo it looks like they have upgraded to the pinned version - old stock is what I received I think.

Casper7 - good idea I thing I`m going to try a few things this morning before I go out flying - then possibly go back to the plastic fitting
I have bit of an idea ,I`ll have a play and report back later on

I think you must have a large vibe somewhere to be breaking the tail supports. Now don't flame me here, but i've got the 600E boom supports on a Knight3d using a Raptor 50 alloy tail clamp. I've had no problems and have been using this for about 4 months. Just make sure you use overnight epoxy and assemble the supports in place on the boom and leave them to cure.

Your call is important to us.

If it's so important, answer the f*ckin phone!

Spent all day out with the 600N yesterday and the boom supports have come back intact.

As mentioned I have done some very tiny mods to see if it helps and I have not really got any noticable vibration on the heli anyway.
I have lined the inside of the Metal boom clamp with servo tape and used fibre washers under the metal rod ends to see if that helps keeps things together.

I`m just going to see what happens now as I put more flying time in.

you guys ever think that just maybe that a better idea isto keep the plastic tail boom support mount. that way the plastic absorbs some of the vibration instead using the metal clamp.

Something has to give under the vibration.

Yes, but when you have spent money on the ally clamp, you gotta use it, so we need to find a solution to this problem, its all part of the hobby

I had a severe twist in the metal ends which torqued the support rod putting undue stress on the metal ends. One end was at 12 oclock and the other was at 2 oclock. I had to refit them inorder to eliminate any stress.

I to have had the same problem with my 600N. Yesterday I put one flight on it and towards the end of the flight it started acting real funny. So I hurried and set it down and noticed after that my tail boom support was broken right on the metal part just like inkspots. I have ordered replacement boom supports and waiting on them to come in, but now I am kinda nervous know this could break at anytime inflight.

Broke mine on my rappy 90SE just like that...they need to put the correct angle on the chassie, provide angled washers or cut the boom support ends a little. 600N good so far.
