HIROBO X-spec - Freya - Sceadu - Shuttle > Freya tail shakes????

Hi guys, I just got done building my new Freya. I hovered it to set the blade track and break in the new eng...All was well except for the tail shaking vertically at a very fast rate.. I did not check the balance on the tail when I built it..I hope that is what the problem is. Is this common to these birds?

Thanks for any comments........

The vertical tail top on mine vibrates too. The plastic used for the fins on the Freya is real flimsy. Lots of folks have switched to carbon to fix this. Another fix is to move the boom supports to the lower holes.

Honestly, once you get the engine running smooth it mellows right out. But at high head speeds you are going to get V-tail buzz.

When I run my Govenor on my Freya and crank the head RPM to 1500 the tail is rock solid, when I go to 1750 it buzzes.

Thanks for the response!
However it's not a buzz on the horizontal fin, The tail is bouncing vertically approx 1/4" at a very fast rate. I'll check the balance on the tail rotor today. I hope to find it to be way out so I know what the problem is, if not I'm stumped.

Thanks again,

Vertical bounce is tailrotor/assembly
Tailrotor blades/holders/output shaft
Go and balance the whole thing on a high point balancer
Do the blades by them selves, their is a really good one made by Dubro. It uses two powerfull magnets and you put the shaft in the middle.
It's as frictionless as you can get it.
Once the blades are done take off the Tail rotor hub with blade holders and balance them by them selves.
After this you should have no more problems (unless you have got a bend shaft).

Thanks for the info guys!
I checked the balance on the tail rotor it was really close! I called Jeff Green and he told me to move the boom supports to the lower hole on the frame and give it a try....... It worked!!! I could not believe it made so much of a difference.. Well, a few more tanks of hovering to let the engine get broke in and I'll take her up and see how she flys.
Again, thanks for the help!

Tail Shake

I also had the tail shake that you have encountered. However my fix was to straighten the flybar. I fly both my Eagle98 and Freya with the boom supports in the upper position and have two of the smoothest flying helis I have seen. Hope this helps.

tail shakes

If you move the tail boom supports to the lower hole, it works most of the time, but since I'm anal, I didn't want to do this since it worked fine when it was new.

Normally, if you scrape the tail blades on concrete or grass, that's enough to cause the tail blade holder (414-164) to get bent, so if you really want to get it working as if new, replace it as well as the tail blades.

I normally keep a spare in the flight box. And after an incident, I always give the heli a "thumbs up" if all vibrations as gone.

Also, a lean midrange seems to also cause this situation, if you run the midrange on an OS61 too lean, the tailboom supports will vibrate since the mainframe is transmitting it to the tail.
