Tandem Rotor Helis Vertol Chinook > 1:48 micro ch-47 using ep100 parts?

I saw a thread about a plastic model ch-47 in 1:35 scale converted to rc, I thought that was an awesome project. I did notice that the heads were alot bigger than the heli, so I was looking for mechanics that would be a little more scale / fit better, the only parts I could find were off of a ep100pro w/opt 3 blade heads(mini zap, pixy zap, mini zoom) at www.flying-hobby.com . The problem the longest blades they have are 190mm, way to small for the 1:35scale. If you could find longer blades to fit those heads, then that would be perfect.

But if bigger blades don't fit my next option would be a 1:48 scale ch-47 I found online. I thought small heli, small mechanics, I wonder if it would work. I just don't know the measurements on the 1:48 to see if these mechanics are closer to scale for this bird.
I started pricing ep100 parts I thought I'd need and it seems like it will be a pretty expensive build. Because of the price to size, I'm not sure it would be worth trying to build.
Does anybody think this small of a heli is flyable?

My budgets about broke right now, I just bought a gasser so I just thought somebody else might like the idea.

Hi, Think it might have been my 1:35th CH47 you saw, you are right the heads are bigger scalewise than the real CH47, the problem is that I had to provide enough clearance for the swashplates to operate, moving up and down for pitch and side movements for control means the heads have to be higher. It may be possible to use fixed pitch heads and get them lower down and more scale looking but not sure how it would fly. The other problem is clearing the rear turret with blades big enough to give lift, the front head has to be high enough to clear this, the real helicopters dynamics means the blades are shorter than what you can use at 1/35th.

At 1:48th the biggest problems you would face is getting servo's to fit inside the turrets which would be tricky, it would also be difficult to fit blades large enough to give sufficient lift. Getting a motor, RX, tandem controller plus battery and up to 6 servos inside the fuselage would be a tall order.

The dynamics of a tandem heli are such that small scale rotors would be quite unstable to fly, you get interaction between the heads and the general DCP controlling elements make these small scale helis difficult to set up.

Having said all this I do remember seeing a very small scale CH47 that could apparently fly so it isnt an impossible task.

I did think about the weight of the fuse, I know those plastic models aren't too light, and that is alot of stuff to fit into the heli.
I've not seen any of thost 2 models in person, so I still have now clue as to the size of the actual heli. It's probably a lost cause, for the 1:48 but it would be the smallest rc tandem if it worked.

For the 1:35, I was thinking of trying the ep100 parts in it, since their 3blade heads are smaller, but instead of using their blades, I was gonna try the same size blades you used.

Props to you on your 1:35 It looks awesome. How well does if fly?

For the price of the project, I'll probably just wait until TechModel Products finishes up with their twinn rexx. I know one of the test pilots and it flies excellent. Just can't wait until the fuselage is finished. It might actually be cheaper to build the twin rex over the custom 1:48.

I think for what you would spend gettting the 1:48 in the air you would be better buying the Twin Rexx, it will fly better also, I hope to buy one myself next year.

My Micro Chinook flies ok a bit nervous and can be a handful but its mostly down to me panicking in case I crash it!

CH-46

Have you taken a look at the 1:24 scale CH46 from MS Composite??? Might be what you are looking for.... I see heli proz is out of stock, but you might be able to hunt one down if this is of interest to you....

Good Luck, Stan

If there is a cure for this, please don't tell me about it!!!

I will go with the Twinn Rexx when they finaly get done with them, I decided I'm not up to the challenge of modifying tiny heli for alot of money that I don't even know if it will work.

I have seen MS Composites CH-46, I like there mechanics but I just don't like the Ch-46 shell. If they would make a CH-47 shell, then I'd buy.

Thanks to you all for the coments.
Cliff

P.S. I found a website that sells 3blade heads for the trex (I just don't remember it right now) Once TMP finishes I'd probably try the 3blade heads for a scale bird.
