Thanks for sharing Mel! It looks like the heli can pull forever . I think upping the HS to 2000 would make it even more of a monster, but like you said flight times would suffer. Would you say V3 feels better than your V2 head or the other way around?

I just got my Ion-X2 conversion yesterday from MA. Need to start putting it together this week after I'm done fixing my Joker. BTW, nice piroflips.

V3 is better, you need the cyclic pitch for extreme situations (so the "gyro" can work)

However, I could feel the flex in the head (I think) so I have ordered some metal grips to try out.

Very Nice.
Was that with the 4900's or the 3700's ?
Also what kind of flight times are you seeing ?
Thanks for taking the time to have a video posted.

I was planning on using 10s 3700's in my Ion-X 2 with the 32-3.
I might be dissapointed with the performance after seeing that video!

12s1p 5000, 25C packs.

3700 packs works, just a question how long they will survive.

My Bergen Intrepid Gas flybarless...

This was my test last year using CSM 540 gyros, pre Cyclock system on my Bergen. Just like what Mr Mel did, I found the easiest way to control the total pitch range without losing servo resolution or power by extending the pitch arm. The Bergen grips are metal so there's no flexing issues.

After proving the concept I moved on to an old Schluter four-blade head.

The pitch arms are too long for strong cyclic authority but that will change shortly when an OF "Bendix Beam" four-blade head is installed. Its pitch arm ball radius should be perfect.

[no picture presently]

No hard 3D with any of these heads as I can't fly with that degree of vigor. More scale-like moves with some inverted thrown in here and there.

While waiting for MA parts, I found out that Raptor 90 upgrade bladegrips from QuickUK is a drop-in replacement on MA "flybarless".
They are not optimal since ball-link is a bit too close to the head (resulting in about 13 degree cyclic pitch)

But it sure flied nice with it, you could surely feel the difference with stiffer blade grips.

Pictures of the head is coming soon.

flybar less

Mr mel

I am about to go this path on a E razor

do you definatly recomend getting metal grips to avoid and "flex" ?

If so which grips are the way to go, the E razor has the same head as a Stratus with the exception of a smaller flybar carried, which will be deleted anyhow.

Thanks

Can you post a pic of the grips? Are they a direct fit? Do you need any different brearings or spindle?

Here is my final solution,
I wont stride towards any more changes since this flew so good its no point.

Its hard to put Raptor parts on a MA machine, but what do you do

Blade grips are a drop-in-replacement, spindle, thrust bearings etc are MA stock.
the linkarms are not 100% centered on the hub, but using a swashdriver to correct phasing, it doesnt matter.

OBS: I moved the linkarms on the servo one hole closer to center, loosing geometry, but gyro will correct, cyclic pitch is perfect now at +-11 degrees, maximum torque and resolution from the servos

Final setup is:

Ion-X2
Actro 32-3 MAX (will change to Neu 1915 when H version is released)
11.26 gearratio
PowerJazz
VBlades 710, 105 on tail
VStabi with BlueTooth
Fromeco Arizona + 5200mah pack (counterweight..)
3 x JR8715 with HD arms, 9256 on tail.

sorry about the Align straps, but they where perfect length

I guess that is not to bad if it fixes the flex problem. Technically it is a Quick UK part, not a Raptor part. Could you use a longer link rod from the swash to the grip to center them at 0 deg? I will have to find a pair in silver for sure. How do you like the BlueTooth for the V-Bar?

Not too bad??? That thing is bad to the bone. Who cares what parts you had to use to make it work properly. The results are what matters. I must have one !

Damn right, that set up looks really sweet. Geometries look good and it makes the whole head look so simple. Nice one Mel

Mr. Mel

I was just wondering if you were concerned about the remaining bearings left in the head coming out for some reason?

Probably not an issue, but it might look cool without them too.

Nice job. Thank you for the updates. I sure want a V-bar now for some reason.

I tried with soft force to get them out, they decided they wanted to stay, I didnt try more.

Next project will probably be my E-Stratus getting a CSM setup, for comparison, cyclock already installed, just needs two 720's

Now that it has been a minute, how is the girl holding up? What kind of flight times are you seeing on what head speed? Killer machine mate.

Ive been tweaking with settings quite alot, VStabi have a "AOF" plugin which eliminates osciallations on elevator axis, with that (correctly configured) its even better, alot better

Im running around 1950-1970 with 710 blades and run hard for 6 minutes, I could push that to around 6.30-6.40 and still stay within 80% on my 12s1p 5000 packs.

I would probably not run this setup with less then 5000 packs unless I would like to buy packs often.

Ive put on a Fromeco 5200 pack in the back, as well as an Arizona regulator, it helps the balance of the heli alot.

Still, sometimes I dont like it, with an old flybar/paddle setup you checked your mechanic setup and go fly, here you have to inflight-estimate fliprates, for sample my piroflips was looking like crap, turned out that I had higher fliprate then rollrate, simple fix, but hard to get exactly same.

Also, It feels different to fly it, you have to get used to it.

Very nice work MrMel.

Did you have to increase the dampening in the head at all?

BlueTooth ROCKS with V-Stabi!
