Women Pilots > New to helis

Hi,

Just stopping in to introduce myself. Im new to this forum as well as the hobby, and I'm completely addicted. My bf bought me a CX2 and I'm starting to feel very comfortable with it. I know that the next level of helis are very different, and from what I've been reading "alot harder to fly". What would you guys suggest as the next level up, as well as practicing on the SIM? Blade 400?

actually the opposite is true, the larger the heli, the more stable and easier it is to fly....

i've read about lots of people going from a blade to a t-rex (or something similar) and loving..never looking back..

then those same people get a 50 size machine and never look back

First let me say WELCOME to the addiction!!!!! It really is a great hobby and there are a lot of ways to go....
If you want to stay with electric for your next heli. then the T-rex would be an excellent choice.... plenty of parts support and also very inexpensive to repair....
If you think that you want to try you hand at a nitro burner, then I would suggest that you go to a 50 sized as advised earlier... both the Rex and the 50 size can be tamed down for training and then "re-tuned" as the need arises as you progress...
What does you bf fly????
But most definitely stay on the sim as much as you can... it really will translate to whatever you choose to fly outside...

Hello Again,

Thank you for all your responses. I'm actually in no rush, still very much enjoying my CX2

I was just curious as to what everyones suggestions would be for a second heli. Honestly, I think the gas powered helis are truly amazing. But I know its going to be a VERY long time before I'd even attempt going down that road. I've been surfing the web looking for as much information on helis how they work, fine tuning, repair ect ect. Do you guys have any favorites?

My bf has a CX2, 2 honeybees, and a Trex 600...all electric.

Since you are all electric so far, you might as well stay with it...
Your bf's 600 would be a nice step up for you... maybe get you a good tx and set it up with training in mind so that it will be pretty gentle and you would be making a BIG MAJOR step up and progress...
For electric though, my favorites are the T-rex and the 600e... both excellent flying heli's and both can be set up for training...

I have 2 GREAT helis that I absolutely LOVE....my baby is a TT E325 MINI TITAN its a 450 size heli. it flies great, is stable,responsive and powerful and can be set up for a newbie(like me

)or made to SCREAM for wild 3D.its VERY affordable(more than other 450 size) parts are readily available and cheap.....my other heli is new and its a 300 size HONEY BEE KING 2......for a belt tail 300 size it flies awesome, its sturdy(good for those "rough"landings)parts are easy to get and its VERY VERY affordable.....theres lots of good helis out there those are just my favorites.......WELCOME to the hobby(addiction???)HAVE FUN, thats what its about,and keep us posted on what you decide

Welcome!

The larger the heli you go, the more stable they are to fly. However, the inverse is true on the cost to repair.....meaning, the larger the heli you go, the more it cost to repair them when you do crash (usually).

I think a TRex 450 would be a good choice for you. You'd learn a whole new side to RC Heli. Things like: how to setup CCPM, what is CCPM, balancing blades, fine tuning blades, gyros, etc.

Also, they're not real expensive when you crash (notice I didn't say it's cheap when they crash

).

I too am fairly new to the hobby. My bf got me into - he has Raptor 50's & 90 and TRex's and lots of others. I have a Blade CX2 and am getting comfortable with it. We saw the new Blade 400 at IRCHA and I was impressed with it. I know it's not out till this fall, so I guess if I don't change my mind, I will just have to wait.

Do you get to build the TREX 450 or does it come preassembled already? I had such a good time watching my bf build his 600 that I was looking for something I could build, so I'd have a better understanding of all the parts and where they go, what they do etc etc.

Just wanted to keep you guys posted. This past weekend my bf surprised me with a TREX 450!!! All I can say is "WOW". I'm having soo much fun just looking at it atm.

Definitely "not" something I'm comfortable with attempting to get in the air right now. Don't want to completely wreck it. I'll just practice on the SIM as often as I can till I get some more exp.

You go girl! After a couple years with nitro birds, I got a T-rex a couple months ago. Great flying little bird and I'm having a blast with it. I got it at a goodtime; I broke my ankle was pretty hobbled. I was able to take the 'Rex out in the front yard and stil get some stick time. Not going to give up my bigger birds, but I sure wouldn't give up the little one either.

They make training gear for the TRex as well. Also make sure you put some weight on the flybar. This will help settle the little heli down. There's a good article in RC Heli (can't remember the month) about flybar weights and how they help. If you have too, you can put two flybar weights on each side (total of four).

Also you can turn down your "throws" or put in some exponential so that the heli is more calm for you.

We all crash. Even the best of pilots crash. Just accept it. Yup it sucks. Yup it cost money. It's only money.

You can always make more.

Stick with the sim until you feel your comfortable. There's no spacebar in the real world.

Keeps us up to date on your progress.

sounds like you have good support..

right at home... you will do just fine.

Don't worry about breaking them.. we all do that

that is why it will be good to build your own.. so you will know how to fix it.. and over time you will be a pro at tearing one down and rebuilding it.. and you wont need the directions after awhile either.. that is when you know you are in deep.

And yes I do have great support Midwest. I really didn't think I'd like it as much as I did, but I really enjoyed watching him fly. And when he asked me if i wanted to try.....(end of story here I am)

Congrats on your new heli

. My boyfriend has two T Rex's - maybe if I am lucky I can talk him into letting me try out one - IF I put training gear on it. I would hate to tear up one of his heli's

It's great too that you have support. I don't think there are any female pilots in our club around here, and some of the guys keep encouraging me to keep trying and keep practicing on the sim. (Wonder if you can wear out the reset button

)
